Is that the regular Mad? All the topics seem to be aimed at kids. Is there a kids version of Mad?

That magazine looks depressing, it seems to be rather pessimistic

I caught that in Wawa yesterday and told my sis to get it on her way to work today, if not to end my curiosity. Plus, anything with Crash in the cover is guaranteed to end up in my room, even if he's insulted.

I don't mean really YOUNG kids, but this one has a competition for a DS in a brightly-coloured star-shaped box, and articles about parent's divorces, joining street gangs and computer games. The covers I see (and I have only ever seen covers) tend to be aimed slightly older. Y'know, with politics an' stuff.

I think that Pac Man's meant to be Alfred.

That's a relief, I didn't see him up there. I was just about to feel very, very old.

Wow, MAD Magazine... That stopped being funny awhile ago. Oh wait, it was never funny in the first place.

I guess they needed to pad out the cover, because Crash Bandicoot and Lara Croft really shouldn't be on anyone's radar anymore.

Haven't stopped me from still playing his games.

I think it's a little weird how they really captured the look of Halo, Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, and whatever fighting game that Chun Li is from (looks like SNK-style?), making them all look fairly authentic, while Sonic, Mario, and Crash are all drawn in the same "cartoon" style with no regard to the art styles developed around them.

Probably because they were drawn by different artists, cockwit.

So what's the article like? Is it funny? I remember an article in an old Next Generation (rest its soul) called "You Are Not a Hardcore Gamer -- Unless..." Then it goes on to a checklist of, like, 130 or something different pecularities of people who play alot of games, which were all funny but quite a few were woefully accurate. Stuff like, "You have played mental Tetris with real-world objects", "You have paused Street Fighter to look at Chun-li's underwear", "You can play a serious (non button-mashing) game with any of the Virtua Fighter characters", etc, etc.

Man, remember when you could call yourself a "hardcore" gamer or even a "gamer" and not be ashamed of it? These days I don't openly acknowledge that I play games at all, and generally have very little to say to the halfwits who do. It's a different scene, and not a better one.

The Mad Magazine artists are usually pretty talented on the covers though, parody is their thing. I don't see why they got four characters spot on and missed the three who should have been the easiest.

It bothers you, doesn't it?

Chun-li doesn't really look that realistic in any of the games. Also, Pac-man never looked like Alfred E. Neuman as far as I can recall.

I think they were going for those character's old designs.

Is it just me, or does Sam Fisher look like Naked Snake? Perhaps it was meant to be a parody of both?
