The diary of a dublagem

Post by Brazillian Cara »

WEEK ONE:

The brazillian version of Sonic X is on. For english classes reasons, I lost the first and third episodes, but I could watch the others. Here're the actual impressions:
Sonic- sounds a lot more like the japan voice, as expected. The curious note is that his dubber was also also his dubber in "Sonic Underground", that I never watched. note-6,5.

Chris- doesn't call much attention, and that's nice. But I'm not particulary annoyed with him. -8,5.

Tails- his voice was based upon the american one, and it sucks. But not that much. -5,5.

Cream- it suits perfectly for her, and the voice itself is A LOT less annoying. -9,0.

Amy- the voice was well-chosen, but there's something wrong... -7,0.

Eggman- it's almost the japanese voice, and it does'nt fell stupid when reading stupid script lines. Bravo. -10,0.

I'm going to update this topic next week. Until then, another note:
To have the full experience of hearing the brazillian version of the ending theme, try to fuck a cat with a whining ambulance.

If we ever have a quote of the week feature, that has to win. Every week.

The Spanish dub really sucks!. Eggman is called â€￾Huevoâ€￾ that means Egg. And they even translates Knuckles name!, they call him “Nudilllosâ€￾. And that was I could watch before I had to shut down the Tv to avoid even more brain damage.

WEEK 2: (or 3, or whatever)

Sorry, I'm late. I lost almost every episode in the second week, so it wasn't worth making an update...until now.

Knuckles- The dubber has a rough voice, wich suits the character. But he has problems with some stupid script lines...-7,5.

Rouge- Bichy, but not so entusiastic.-8,0.

notes about the show:
Tail's voice is more girly than squeaky. Am I supposed to be happy?
When will the game-based episodes show up?
Chris's mom is hot.
I hate Chris's uncle (Sam Speed).

quote-The Spanish dub really sucks!. Eggman is called â€￾Huevoâ€￾ that means Egg. And they even translates Knuckles name!, they call him “Nudilllosâ€￾. -quote

Luckyly (for me and other brazillians), we don't have this problem
(altough "Rouge" is pronouced "hooge" around here).

I probably won't make another update until Shadow shows up.

Why? You like him or something? I still don't see what's so great about him.

No, he and Big are the only famous characters that I haven't heard yet. And there's really nothing else to talk about the show.

While this has nothing to do with the Brazilian dub, I was wondering if anyone's heard the English dub voice of Gamma? He had a good voice in SA, and I was hoping they had a reasonable duplicate in Sonic X.

I could say it's awful, but that'd be an exagerration.

Take one of Eggman's robot henchmen from the dub, make it twice as high pitch, and make it sound like a robotic woman. That's E-102's voice in the dub of Sonic X. You'll completely forget how mediocre Eggman's voice is when you hear him.

Insert comments about "oil changes" or "oiling up" here. I can't be arsed to put the actual effort in and be witty, so Zeta or Grant can do it or something.

Once again, BAAAAD dubbing in general.
Part of the whole show is picking the right voice actors.

Am I the only person who doesn't hate the Sonic X dub (E-102's horrendous voice aside)? It's not as if the show isn't still kiddy, badly written, and full of loose tie-ins to the recent video games in the Japanese version (and yes, I've SEEN the Japanese version).

Or does it being in Japanese automatically reduce the pain or something?

Viewing any production in a language other than the one it was originally in, no matter how well done, is not as good as viewing the production in the language it was intended. When viewing an English dubbed anime, you are viewing the dubbers's interpretation of what was going on, as opposed to watching it yourself and deciding what was going on. Granted, this happens with subtitles as well, but things like tone and inflection are not lost with subs.

Aren't the voice actors in the original language just offering their own interpretation of the script? Why is one interpretation of the script automatically superior?

I can understand that a lot of times things could get lost in translation, but you're saying that no matter how good it is, there's no way it could be as good as the original interpretation?
