That's what I do as well. Besides, do people really play Sonic games because of the plot?Omni Hunter wrote:I just ignore the story these days anyway and treat every game as it's own world.

That my good friend would be me, since Sonic is my favorite character of all time.
I really care for the characters and hate seeing them get ruined, in STH the story is atleast decent for me and I know I will enjoy it.
The only Story I did not enjoyed was Heroes because it just seemed so dumb and contradicted itself plus the character design was very ugly.
I dont get it how some people just like a game without liking the characters story nor sound, they only care about the gameplay and camera... Its Illogical.

There are plenty of people who hate this game's story. I mean it interegrates some of the overused cliche's in your typical JRPG and it ends up pretty stupid for this franchise.
I've just seen all of Sonic story from the movie files, I'll downloaded and I must say there were some pretty lame scenes and dialogue. Also, Elise is a lame character.

Well, perhaps it also sucks...but I dont want to spoil it like you did.
However to me This game feels better than Heroes, both in terms of Game and Story.
And since I enjoy the Japanese Voices I will have a good time like i did with japanese Sonic X.

Thats because they couldnt talk, but I know what you mean.
The answer to this problem is that Sonic was pure Anime material in the past, thus the plot of the games were colorfull yet awesome, watch the OVA Sonic Movie and you will understand the game's spirit.
But now theyre focused on realism cant say its a bad thing, but Sonic must keep his Sonic CD edge at all costs, so far I like how the game looks.
The Elise thing is only nasty to those who's mind is nasty, I find it cute. As cute as Sonic's relation with Sera's...well Elise is better because Sera was an Amy clone who liked to control guys with her charm.

The way I remember it, Amy doesn't try and control guys with her charm so much as she does with her large hammer.SegaSonic wrote:Sera was an Amy clone who liked to control guys with her charm.
Elise is just a lame character all around. I mean, she has a demon sealed inside her and is completely in love with a giant blue hedgehog, but I'm still not interested in her at all. Maybe if she had any inkling of personality.
She even tries to commit suicide at one point, though it was to get away from Eggman. She loses major points for that.

I've recently beaten the game, and I've got to say, I immensely enjoyed the whole thing. Of course, before getting it I read all those negative reviews, which may have helped. Lots of focus on the negative and very little focus on the positive in those articles, so what I got was confirmation of bad stuff I knew would be there and lots of pleasant surprises of good stuff nobody told me about in advance.
The game is piece of crap to beginners, but once you get the hang of it, I've gotta say it's tons of fun. If Sonic Team had only released a finished product instead of a glitchy mess of hideously unbalanced difficulty, then that would've been nice. It really would have.
No comment on the story. Cheesy as hell, though. Alright, one comment.

Exactly, in fact I even thought Elise was the princess from the OVA until I read some of the posts on this site. She must AT LEAST be the inspiration for Elise.SegaSonic wrote: The answer to this problem is that Sonic was pure Anime material in the past, thus the plot of the games were colorfull yet awesome, watch the OVA Sonic Movie and you will understand the game's spirit.
I agree. Only the hentai/yiffy freaks are going to find something to sexualize in that relationship.SegaSonic wrote: The Elise thing is only nasty to those who's mind is nasty, I find it cute.

I don't care if my mind is dirty or not. A human princess kissing a midget in a fursuit is wrong. This is obviously a game designed for a slightly more mature Sonic audience in mind, so the whole "Only people with dirty minds would think that!" pretty much rings true - after a certain age, 80% of the population has a dirty mind, especially the horny teenagers this game is no doubt aimed at.

Well, what did you expect? Elise was a princess...and prince/Princesses kiss dead and sleeping things as well as animals such as frogs.
I think the main problem with Sonic Team is that theyre working too hard, the multy platform for a single game Idea was a stupid move, it only drains the time down the toilet thus we get rushed products.
people say it was microsoft that rushed them.
I was a SEGA fan only because of Sonic stuff was in it, thats the way it should be. I think it was Naka's idea to go multyplatform after he heard a baby say he/she couldnt play Sonic because she only had PS2. Hell, that was a bad as giving a PS3 to Taco Bell.
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
And Not to mention that Naka is still a loser, He was working on this game and ran away like a little girl probably at noticing the day time night time thing was gonna be scrapped. They shouldve had given the producer status to Oshima! Naka did it again, he ran away from Sonic even 15years later.
Well, in the words of Shigeru Miyamoto, ''some times you gotta do it yourself''
Sonic Team is my goal, will I make it?

Sonicteam's main problem is they think they can still knock a Sonic game out in roughly 12 months and have it be this amazing piece of work.
It's extremely apparent that the Sonic games could be really awesome and fun, but they lack a lot of polish. Sonic 2k6 lacks the most polish out of any Sonic game yet, and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
It needed at LEAST another six months or more of development time.
But no! Can't miss Christmas! Hurry hurry hurry! There's money to be made, consumers to cash in on! It's got a brand name on it, shove it out the door - who cares if it's done or not! They'll buy it anyway!

I don't think its the whole multiplatform thing that has led to the decline in the quality of Sonic games. If that was the case why are EA, Activision etc. multiformat games are of a good technical quality. And to be fair PS2 has had some of the best platformers.SegaSonic wrote: I think the main problem with Sonic Team is that theyre working too hard, the multy platform for a single game Idea was a stupid move, it only drains the time down the toilet thus we get rushed products.

I think it comes down to what Blaze said. They need a bit more time to develop the game.
The main criticisms of the game I have constantly read is:
1) Erratic Controls
2) Excessive Loading
3) Shit Camera
4) Silver/Gold Medal counter stopped
The sad thing is they(I would have thought, I'm not a games developer) can be fixed without completly overhauling the game and changing massive areas of the game.
They could have delayed it for a year. Hell, up to the demo release (and the reaction to the demo) I was really looking forward to the game. Another year of hype would have been good, surely? More people would have 360s and PS3s thus a larger user base and more sales (possibly).
But you get the impression that Sega thinks:
a) Who cares it will sell
b) Who cares we're making Yakuza 2
c) Over reached myself...
Oh well, heres hoping for Sonic the Hedgehog 2...

Sonicteam had a runtime and game assets back in E3 2005 in June. They had a lot longer than 12 months to produce the game. Even if they pulled that tech demo out of their arses the day before E305, they would still have had 18 months to work on the final product.BlazeHedgehog wrote:Sonicteam's main problem is they think they can still knock a Sonic game out in roughly 12 months and have it be this amazing piece of work.
But anyways, I bought Sonic360 last Friday, spent most of the weekend playing it, and it's shite.
Much like CE, I became a game dev because of the Sonic franchise. I've played them all and enjoyed most of them. But this new one is the first Sonic game since Sonic Labyrinth that I actually didn't like. Seriously, the RPG world is almost forgiveable, and the first couple of act levels are brilliant, but then you get to that unplayable snowboarding level, and it just goes downhill from there. Like the Crisis City level, where if you actually try and play the game or touch the controller in any way, you'll die. But if you let the game play itself, you'll complete the level.

We won't get the November NPD numbers 'til the second week of December, I think.
Even it it does sell a lot, terrible Sonic games lack legs of selling after the holiday season unlike some AAA franchises.
Also, reading the terrible reviews of this game on the net is amusing. I read one review comparing this game to syphilis.

Well, from the way the story was going, I thought they were aiming for the "teenage animu furry-con" demograph.BlazeHedgehog wrote:I don't care if my mind is dirty or not. A Sonic game shouldn't be a piece of crap or hard to get used to for beginners or novice Sonic players. It's shouldn't take awhile to get used to the controls of a Sonic game for anybody at all.Owen Axel wrote:The game is piece of crap to beginners, but once you get the hang of it, I've gotta say it's tons of fun. You know the Genesis games, the ones that everyone here loves? You know how the basics of playing the game involved holding down the right directional button on the D pad and occasionally hitting either a, b, or c, depending on your preference? Yeah, it shouldn't be any more complicated than that. It's a Sonic game.Owen Axel wrote:The game is piece of crap to beginners, but once you get the hang of it, I've gotta say it's tons of fun.

I rented it over the break and did the whole 20 hour gaming binge in two days in order to finish it and return it before I left my parents house. The camera seemed better than the demo I played, but still pretty terrible. The loading times were absolutely ridiculous. Spending the better part of a minute to load a character saying two boxes of dialouge describing your objective followed by another minute just to load the mission is absurd.
I didn't really pay much attention to the story, I watched the scenes, but my friend was playing another game in the same room and he had his volume up pretty loud so I just kinda heard what I could hear. I don't think I missed much.
Aside from the typical cheap deaths though, I thought the game was pretty fun to play. Sonic worked fairly well, his homing attack rarely missed on me and the light dash was pretty good (except for that one part on Kingdom Valley). However, I hate whoever decided to put those super fast sequenences at the end of a 10 minute level. I played through Kingdom Valley and Crisis City at least 5 times each cause I kept dying running through that crap.
Silver was a lot of fun surprisingly. I was dreading having to play with him, then I realized it was almost impossible to die as him since you can levitate for pretty long periods of time.
The biggest surprise was Shadow though, the vehicle sequences were all very short and for the most part not even required. They were utterly pointless though. My biggest problem with him was his homing attack seemed to shoot me off into bottomless pits far more often than I would have liked. I don't get how Sonic's homing attack can work so well, but his doesn't...
I haven't heard you guys talk much about the adventure fields, or whatever they are called in this game, but I hated them. I actually liked them in SA1, but in this game they were far far too big. I found myself wandering around for close to an hour sometimes trying to figure out where to go next. Then I'd hit a hint box circle thing and it'd say check your map and radar and you should never have a problem finding out where to go next. Unless I'm retarded and missed some huge map that I could use to find my way, that little mini map radar thing was useless. Sure the guys would tell you to go to the jungle or forest or whatever, but if you have no idea where the fuck it is, that doesn't really help much.
I'd say the game was better than Heroes, but not really by much. If you could tolerate the cheap deaths and bad camera it was fun to play. The vehicle parts of Shadow felt tacked on, and all the additional characters were boring I thought, even Blaze, but they were all very short parts of the game. I don't get why they didn't just give Tails his tail whip back instead of throwing a dummy ring box which made it surprisingly hard to pick up rings after you got hit. If you can get over that I'd say it makes for a pretty fun game.

I think Sonic Team wasted alot of time thinking on dead aspects of the game like the day/night feature and the dummy ring box which I have no idea why they think its fun...Tails should use his skills not a dumb box.
Also Why is Tails so slow? he was faster than Sonic in Sonic 2.
You guys dont want to accept it but I bet you wouldve liked the game more if Ryan and the old cast was in it.
Because 4kids voices really turn you off.
Did you know Blaze, Maria, Tikal and Wave, They all had the EXACT same voice!?
