Project Trico?

Post by Senbei »

So, there's a fair chance this might be a hoax, but it seems pretty legit:

Supposed early footage of Ico 3.

The ugly protagonist and uglier chihuahua... chocobo... THING are excusable given that this is probably concept work. That also might explain the recycled soundtrack -- the first song is definitely straight out of Shadow. But frankly, they can keep all the crappy bits if the game really is about riding a colossus around.

Holy shit, a game where you ride a giant baby Griffin. That's kind of an original concept. Although obviously instead of Lion + Eagle they did kitten + Eagle to make it cuter.

They'll obviously just kill it to make you sad at the climax, though. Old Yeller! Old Yeller!

Even if this is a hoax, I still think it's a game that someone should probably make.

If this ends up a PS3 exclusive I'm finally going to have to drop a chunk of change on this beast.

The multitudinous electronic cries may fall silent. Commentary is void, for this game will speak for itself; and O, how sweet its voice shall sound.

It's not a hoax, a screencap of this footage and basic conceptual info was leaked over a year and half ago with the moniker that it was supposedly Team ICO's next game. This doesn't exactly reflect what the final product would be as this old Nico trailer was very different from SoTC despite some similar concepts and music.

I'm hoping the final product will have a steady framerate.

I hope they stick with a griffin instead of making it another generic dragon riding game.

Oh don't worry. I'm sure the creature will just turn out to be Dormin and the game will end with the main character being forced to rip the soul from his body and split it into sixteen fragments!

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the griffin is what happened to Dormin after Shadow of Colossus, since we already had a follow up on Wanderer's fate. Dormin was certainly a likable character, and it would make sense that he would be reborn as an infant as well as Wanderer.

Yes, it kicks off with the very same image of that other thread (that old link is kinda dead, though).

I'm getting Panzer Dragoon Zwei vibes here. Perhaps riding a gigantic griffin-like beast is the way Ueda wants to emotionally compensate the people who had to mercilessly slay other apparently innocent gigantic legendary-looking beasts. What a pussy.

Pepper's idea is not only great, it's also already a spoiler.

Really? Where did you hear that? Sounds like a lame idea to me since Dormin was implied to be some ancient and powerful god and the closest thing we got to seeing Dormin's true form had a humanoid appearance, bat-wings, and hooves when he fully possessed Wander, and not the form of a giant Griffin.

In fact, considering how the horns are the thing that links the incarnations of Dormin together is what really makes me doubt this theory. If we see a picture of the Griffin with horns and wings, though, then I'll believe it. Even then, it would be a little thematically odd for Dormin to have been an infant Griffin for a couple of days and then had his soul stuck into statues and thus became a god.

Y'know, I never did beat Shadow of the Colossus. Killed 8 colossi and just kind of stopped. I tried it again a few days ago, against the ninth colossus, but I stopped in the middle of the fight since I had no damn clue where to even START with this laser-shooting behemoth. Going by what Dormin said, it has something to do with the geysers and shooting its feet. Which would be fine, if dragging the colossi out toward a geyser was A) reliable enough to guarantee that he'll be standing over it when it goes off, and B) didn't entail me being shot at by nearly unavoidable laser blasts repeatedly.

It actually goes on top of the geysers pretty dependably. Just ride Aggro like mad and wait for it to flip.

Yeah, I think Dormin's role as an odd mix of Satanic demon and friendly Paganistic resurrection god was intriguing. I'm not sure how something like that could start life as a giant baby Griffin owned by a little Aztec boy, though.

I actually liked the old design a lot better. The rat mouth isn't working for me. There are the Dormin horns, though. The name seems to imply this takes place after SoTC, if the baby colossus is the last of them.

I think your other theory on the critter being a reincarnation of Dormin seems pretty spot-on, but we'll see. I'm sure it will tie to the other games some how.

And hey look, the kid isn't dark-skinned anymore! Shouldn't everyone be making a huge deal out of that or something?

Couple of things from Tokyo Game Show:

Team Ico retrospective and new trailer (near the end of the video).
Interviews one and two.

The interviews reveal the new Japanese title which translates to something like Giant Man-Eating Eagle Torico and simultaneously reveals the griffin's name. Torico, Trico, geddit?
