That's some genuinely incredible spectacle but I can only wonder if they'll be able to maintain actual depth in the mechanics along with it.

That third video had a good couple of QTEs, for example, which I think we've had quite enough of by now, thankyou. The rest of it could have been no more than random button-mashing for all we know.

Well, I only saw a single QTE prompt for waggling the left analog stick (unless that what seems to be a dynamically assigned secondary attack mapped to a face button on the lower left corner of the screen is actually an oddly placed prompt, too), not sure if that amounts to "a good couple".

And yes, the player seemed to be button-mashing its way (particularly in 0:36 and onwards for a short while), but that's obviously not how you play a Kamiya-directed game. At least not if you want to have the slightest window of success.

There were two QTEs, one for escaping the creature's grip (though I'll admit I liked how it actually reached under its crotch to grab the player) and another with that big summoned monster attack (this one particularly concerns me, since that could potentially have had some decent player involvement and introduced some unique mechanics but instead ended up as just an FFVIII-style summon).

This is kind of winning me over too, despite my initial apathy. Maybe I'm willing to be lenient because it's the guy who basically invented the genre. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first one he's been involved with since the original Devil May Cry?

I'm intrigued.

Is there any way to convey a single fascinated eyebrow over the internet?

It's Devil May Cry with boobs instead of shirtless dudes, so I'm immediately disinterested.

[joke questioning Zeta's sexuality and hinting he's homosexual here, what with liking shirtless dudes and preferring them over boobs]

But I am a homosexual. That's my main complaint with the game. : p

I'm perfectly straight and I still dig games with shirtless dudes with 'tude. This is just Zeta's random whining :/ ...

Yeah, missed that one since there isn't a specific button prompt, but that clearly was a "mash the fuck out of your controller" prompt. I'm not so sure if the idea of keeping playing while you unleash a huge witch-hair dragon-like thing head to take care of a big enemy is cool enough, I like watching my enemies being bloodily, brutally crushed and dismembered in a cinematic fashion, and if madly hitting buttons makes the experience more satisfying, well... I take the slightly interactive summon, please.

And even then, it's not like you're gracefully jumping from one giant' shoulder to the other (something more than possible to do with the game's controls) while doing nothing more than pressing successions of on-screen button prompts, one at a time, absolutely disjointed from the action.

This game gets my vote for most annoying game of 2009.

The designer is constantly trying to say this is the most innovative game ever made (looks like Devil May Cry, but with awful art design) and he is always mentioning his fetish stuff about Bayonetta. It is just gross and unappealing.
