So this game's not too easy, is it? So far I've completely botched every fight at least once, forcing me to start over from the beginning of the battle. Exactly what criteria are you graded on? Because no matter what I do, I can't seem to earn anything higher than a C.

Good game, though! I haven't said that about a Sega game since what, Panzer Dragoon Orta? Too bad the characters all look like they were plucked out of some low-budget, new-age pastel porno game designed to appeal to 15-year-old castrated boys who don't yet know they're gay. If Sega insists on culling talent from the anime porn industry for their RPG's (and I don't necessarily have anything against that), they could at least pick from the 4 artists who don't follow the paint-by-numbers model sheets. God dammit, if those chins were any pointier they could double as can openers.


Also, has anyone else tried Flower yet? It's pretty sublime.

I'm on chapter 6 and my experience has been pretty much the same as yours with straight C's and having to attempt each one at least two or three times. Are you taking advantage of the fact that you can save during battles? I wish the game had fucking told me about that 'cause it should would have made things a little easier.

I think the character designs are fine. Their uniforms are neat and you can easily differentiate between each of them. Though I do think the designs for the weapons/tanks and the setting far outshine it.

And yeah, Flower is a pretty chill and relaxing game. I never thought flying around a bunch of pretty scenery could be so much fun. I imagine plenty of people would get pretty bored of that game though.

Just downloaded Noby Noby Boy if only for the fact it's from the guy who did Katamari. Not sure what to expect from it.

Yeah, I keep a couple of extra saves during battles, but I usually prefer to rethink my strategy from the ground up and start over completely. Snipers move too damn slow.

Not much to say about Noby. It's fun to mess with for about 10 minutes. It doesn't even really have much appeal as one of those beautiful, esoteric, quasi-interactive non-games that the PS3 does so well.

This reminds me I still haven't continued playing the level with the giant Nazi-Soviet-Roman Empire Imperial train after the one set in the concentration camp for the Jews Darcsens. After all, I have to protect the Netherlands Gallia!

I would try this game if they did not make it exclusive for no logical reason (it even started on 360). But I do dislike the character designs. Like are these soldiers or female flower pickers? And why are a bunch of the guys bum-buddies?

I know that, but you haven't played the game. The country is definitely a fantasy Holland. It's not as flat as the real Netherlands, but the overall landscape with its agricultural characteristics, the windmills, the architecture of the cities and villages... It's all very Dutch. Except for that desert and canyon in the South-East, but I'll consider that artistic freedom.

The only other thing that bothers me about the game are the cutscenes. Not only the admittedly slightly generic story and characters, but primarily the fact that just like in Code Geass R2 you're often wondering why everyone can be all happy and cheerful and busy with their own personal problems when there's a war outside and a few moments later they're out on the battlefield killing hundreds of enemy soldiers while trying to barely survive, being under fire from all sides.

So apparently, grades are doled out based solely on the number of turns used, which is completely retarded. Why would you grade for speed in a strategy game? I never have enough EXP because I prefer to sweep the battlefield slowly and extinguish every single enemy (which by conventional RPG logic should be earning me more EXP) and I have to pootle around with those stupid skirmishes between every story battle just to keep my levels up.

The story is also a bit illogical at times and not too interesting either way, but there are still traces of Arcadia charm in some of the cutscenes and character interactions. I'm going to remember the goat poop scene for years.


So yeah, it's no Arcadia, but it manages to be compelling despite its glaring flaws. I understand there's already a TV anime in production?

I put Valkyria down during the "sneaking" mission and haven't felt compelled to pick it up again. It's fun enough, but not as charming as I had hoped. I probably would have loved it 8 years ago if it'd been on the Dreamcast, but right now I'm too busy to care about another generic JRPG. That said, the personality quirks of the soldiers is my favorite aspect of the game and may encourage me to come back to it when I have nothing else to do.

I think they appear after you've cleared a mission or advanced a chapter.

I didn't read the thread at all but it's ridiculously easy if you level up only your scouts and cheese every mission by casting every buff on a single scout unit (especially Alicia) and running her straight to the goal.

My favorite thing about the game is how they have so many characters but they make them feel different just by their potentials.

Like my favorite character is Cezory, he is a sniper that thinks he is better than any other sniper hence his sniper killer ability but he is afraid of heights and loses stats when he is by a high ledge. How can you be a sniper afraid of heights? it's so funny. And on top of that the character is racist against darcsens.

It's cool in this game that most characters don't contribute anything to the main story and are just extras but you really get a feel for what they are like. It's reminds me a lot of shadow of the colossus.

also once you get the demolition boost command scouts are fucking killer.

yeah it kind of sucks that you have to pick the story characters for extra cp because once you pick them of course you have to pick Vyse and Aika, and by then your roster is pretty much full. Like outside of the story characters I pretty much only pick my favorite characters even if their potentials are not good in the area.

Continued to play and beat chapter 10 now. Boy the cutscenes were terrible again.
After blowing up the bridge below the train and finishing your mission, you're notified that the empire gathered all the Darcsens of the concentration camp in a single house and set it on fire, mudering everyone. During this, Zaka goes all "REVENGE DOESN'T MAKE THEM ALIVE AGAIN IT DOESN'T HELP IF I HATE AND KILL THE ONES WHO DID THAT". Then, just one cutscene later he joins the militia and your squad. Oops! Oh, and in the same scene everyone is all cheery and happy back at the headquarters, relaxing and chatting peacefully and Alicia gives Welkin a Valentine's Day Feats of the Spirits present! Also Hans the winged pig.

SEGA announced that this game will be recieving DLC.

SEGA announced today that three downloadable content packs will be made available for the U.S. version of Valkyria Chronicles on the PlayStation 3.

The first pack, Hard EX Mode, will let you play through the main campaign again but against tougher enemies and without the assistance of the trusty tank, Edelweiss. The second pack, an Edy mission titled "Enter the Edy Detachment," will let you play as Edy in an attempt to save a small village from the Imperial forces, after having been separated from the rest of the squad.

Last is the Selvaria mission titled "Behind Her Blue Flame," which puts you in control of an Imperial engineer named Johann assigned to Selvaria's troop. This will give players the rare opportunity to see Selvaria through the eyes of an Imperial soldier.

Although no exact release date has been set, SEGA did announce that we can expect the downloads sometime this spring.

I'm currently at chapter 13. A lot of people will die from where you are, but then the respective following cutscenes will ruin the mood again, so you can look forward to a lot of facepalms!
Oh, and is it just me or does Selvaria's lance look like a tampon? Not that it'd stop her form insta-killing your tanks, that is.

Also I'll get the latter 2 dlcs for sure.
