I didn't send it in, really!

Post by Wooduck51 »

Image

I drew the sketch in 2004; BUT REALLY, I DIDN'T SEND IT IN TO SEGA, HONEST!!!!! in retrospect maybe I should have....

I know, not that amazing, but I was going through some old pictures of when I dreamed of what a Shadow the hedgehog game could be like; a game featuring Shadow selflessly saving the world from a mighty evil, featuring a control scheme like the one from Sonic 2006, but refined and fluid, no guns or vehicles, and a game where Shadow was the not-quite-as-emo-pseudo-happy insectivore from the end of SA2.

And we all know how that turned out.

Your design is all wrong. It needs an alien counter so you can beat the level (in theory!), then search for 20 minutes to find the enemy you missed.

You have no idea how much time I spent in that sonofabitch westopolis (and others) trying to beat that mission. Always missing just one!

I beat 360, heroes and unleashed but I never played shadow. Should I pick it up just for laughs or is this game so bad it is still not funny?

Common sense says no.

Although. It beats playing 06 by default. The analog control is about as touchy as Unleashed is, probably a little bit worse; if you were able to put up with that, try it if you want. Once you put the story behind you, there's a suprising chunk of replayability/experimentation to find, assuming by that point you still have the patience for it. And obviously you really don't want it on PS2 if you can avoid it.

So, and I want to avoid sounding like Dasher as much as possible, given that the English dialog is so grating and it's the one you get stuck with by opting for the GameCube version, is the Xbox one the, err, "less insufferable" one?
The Xbox site's backwards compatibility list says it works on a 360, no additional glitches reported.

But it's almost worth suffering through to know what the incompetent GUN troops are saying. "Someone, find out where we are!"

If you were able to play through Sonic 06, then yes, you are able to play through Shadow. I actually kinda, sorta, in a way, kinda enjoyed Shadow... Err, but no so much that anyone needs to look down at me for it!

The controls on Shadow aren't great, but they're not awful either. The gunplay is fucked since you can't aim the bastards, and most of the missions/stages involve hunting/finding a large number of difficult-to-find things in very boring generic post-apocalyptic or Heroes-esque stages. However, when they have the occasional good idea, it shines through. I was never able to quite torch the bugger, but the mission where you have to gun down Air Force One has some segments that are giddily reminiscent of Wing Fortress.

I really didn't care much for the Air Force One level. And it's nothing like you think it is, Joey. You're running through a generic... umm... warehouse-like area with the plane flying on a boxy set path not too far above you.

I had the same curiosity as Joey last summer and bought it. I kinda regretted it, since the soundtrack is almost all terrible, the different story paths contradict each other, and searching through a labyrinth for that 1 last enemy you have to kill utterly sucks.

It was kinda fun and relaxing to have a couple different ways to beat each level and plow through the game in an hour or so the first time I played. I'm never going to beat the game with all 13(?) different endings to see the TRUE ending. EVER. And that bothers me, since it's the only Sonic game I have where I've let that sit.

That's almost a shame, since the paralysis cutscene in the last story is quite possibly the best so-awful-it's-funny offering Shadow makes.

I regret not playing any Sonic games after Heroes. I can't get involved in these conversations.

It's probably better for you in the long run that you didn't.

Shadow was the only post 3D SA2 game I bothered to beat, so I guess I took some enjoyment out of it somewhere.

Although I am practically finished with Unleashed, but that Eggmanland.....

That whole scene reminds me of those B-listed horror films in the 1950's, which almost always had hilarously bad acting. Maybe Sonic Team was attempting to make a homage to that era.

Those "kill-'em-all" missions never really really bothered me, but only because I knew what I was getting into, and slowed down to a crawl so I missed no enemies. You wanna know what's really a clusterfuck? Mad Matrix, Dark Mission. Trust me, once you complete that, you'll never ever want to enter that stage ever again.

My general opinion of Shadow the Hedgehog is that the developers took the well-made games of Sonic Adventure and its sequel, gutted them down to their barest forms, and replaced what they removed with a lot of crap (weapons, aliens, stupid useless partners, ect). And yet, I too found some enjoyment from the game. I think, personally, the appeal has to do with the massive amount of destruction you can cause.

Rent the game first before you buy it. If you still can, that is.

Hey, neither have I. No, that's a lie -- I played the '06 360 demo. I don't think that counts, though.

This whole goddamn forum is infested with shadow the hedgehog and sonic 06 sympathizers. I'd say its about time for some ethnic cleansing.

It's not really that big of a deal. I mean, it surely wasn't the worst thing ever said in this forum... better be careful, tough.
