I think he was probably referring more to the character design.CM August wrote:I found a lot of that show's art direction very impressive for what it was. Wah wah, it doesn't have checkered hills and geometric landscapes. I wonder where else I haven't seen them lately...Radrappy wrote:SATAM

Yeah, most of the character designs on that show ranged from meh to ugly. The ugly mainly consisting of Robotnik's redesign and that godawful dragon.

It was different from Sega, but hardly bad; next to the classic games it's probably the 'universe' I appreciate most.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
No those two particular designs were ugly. Even if the show was a completly original program without the Sonic name instead, I still would have thought they were horrible.
As for your last comment, he sucked because he hardly did anything. Even the ultra-goofy, uncompetent, and equally ugly Robotnik from AoStH was better than him.
And here's something on topic:

Nothing wrong with a little variety. It all depends on one's taste in villains.
Japanese box art looks decent. Wonder if the US will luck out and get something at least on par with that.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I'm with August on this one; the show had the best, most memorable art direction I've yet seen in a Saturday morning cartoon, and Robotnik was just badass. The fact that he never actually did anything only served to make that one scene where he flew out of Antione's trap hole and started shooting fucking finger lasers at him that much more astonishing. It was totally worth it.
Dulcy was just straight up bullshit, though, and her hogging the spotlight over the rest of the Freedom Fighters (Sans Sally, naturally) towards the end of the series certainly didn't help her case.

Here's the European Cover art. I thought the US cover was shown here already...

At least the Japanese box art conveys a sense of movement, which one would kind of assume is the main goal for any game featuring a super sonic hedgehog.

I'm reminded of the US Unleashed boxart, since one half has all the stupid shit on it and the other half looks pretty decent. I forecast further "God, they have the right idea, but so much awful bullshit in the way".

That Tails-blacksmith has a really great design. Amy, on the other hand... I suppose I can get used to. Her white dress really doesn't look that proper, somehow.

I almost forgot about that contest. Thank god the Japanese aren't afraid to show off their shitty fanart either. Maybe the quality on both sides of the pacific rim will be about even.

Far too many people are going to find the thought of Tails in an apron irresistibly homoerotic. I don't approve.

I think the apron is entirely appropriate for him. He's probably the character with the best "Arthurian" design. Oh and another thing...
Knuckle's jagged armor kinda makes him look like his 3-D model from Sonic the Fighters. Anybody else get that impression?

Okay, you know what? Those character designs are cool as hell. If I was fourteen I would totally whip up some fanart of that and put it on my dA!! ^^

Amy is Nemue? Doesn't that mean she'd have to bone Merlina in a Lesbian relationship?

This is a God of War forum isn't it? I was a bit confused with all these Sonic characters apearing in the recent titles.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Nimue/Nemue is the Lady of the Lake. In early mythology, she and Merlin ended up becoming and item and either Merlin ended up locked in a cave with her or alone . Later stories split the Lady of the Lake into two characters: Nimue the lake spirit and Vivian, Merlin's seductress.

It's somewhat sad that Tails character's the only one to not have a proper name, just some random, homoerotic little furry blacksmith. Also, where and who is Eggman this time?

Except I just realised this is a stupid idea because that would mean Robotnik had to succeed in his goal at the end. Plus he wouldn't have any reason to be in England where the game is set. And yes, those are the sole reasons this idea is terrible!!!

It would be hilarious if Eggman were just King Arthur's crazy-ass court jester this time around.
