Rated 12 and up for sex and violence? Then I think it's safe to assume it has nothing to do with Mario or Sonic (I think...).

I'd say it's starting to smell like some kind of "edgy" video game parody, a la The Simpsons Game.

The kanji learning game seems to be significant of Japan's increased dependence on computers to write. Some of them are forgetting how to write kanji. I'd imagine that it's also to help children learning them for the first time and to help study some of the more obscure characters.

The T leads to Let's Tap!, for Tap. The u leads to a u-can kanji writing game.

I get the feeling we're all going to feel like fools when we realize what the mushroom is from. Though it does seem like something that would appear on a Nintendo system, with the links to games for Wii and DS.

I got it! The name of the game is "Takao Miyoshi produce." So it's a game about Takao Miyoshi working at a grocery store.

Mayhaps this could be an obscure clue?

So far the game parody idea sounds the most likely but I'll go ahead & throw another 1 out for the hell of it: it is Mario related & the reason for the colors mismatch is that it's a new power-up.

No mushroom in any Mario game ever had this exact form, regardless of the colour.

Well the sprite from SMB1 kinda resembles it.....kinda.

While we're on the subject of ominous countdown splash pages, this little number from Marvelous has caught my attention. It couldn't really be what it looks like, could it?

Must be the "Let's advertise our new games with symbols not really exclusive or original to but generally linked with Nintendo brands!!" season.
Zelda + Harvest Moon? I'd play it.

Though I'm sure nobody DIDN'T notice this, but the sound when you click the mushroom is very-nearly-but-not-quite-exactly the same as the classic Mario 1-up sound.

It's obvious that we're supposed to make a connection to Mario, but it's impossible to say what it could actually mean.

Read a theory elsewhere that the sites are counting down to a new F-Zero. Apparently it's because F-Zero AX ran on the Triforce motherboard & the blue mushroom was an emblem that could pasted on a vehicle in GX (or so says the random person, I wouldn't know about the emblem part first hand).

F-Zero+Harvest Moon=...............what the heck I'd still play it.

Given that F-Zero is one of the few Nintendo franchisees that hasn't hit Wii yet, it's certainly a possibility – I'm sure they'll do one at some point. Seems a bit odd that Sega would put up a teaser site for it, though. Time shall tell, I suppose.

I like F-Zero in concept and love the character designs, it's just too damn hard. Or at least the last one was.

I really didn't see what people found so hard about F-Zero GX.
I rented it fully expecting to get assraped every step the way and was...well...disappointed (yes, disappointed that I didn't get assraped). It's not like it was never difficult, but it was nothing like what I'd been led to believe. The only reason I didn't finish Master difficulty or whatever the hardest was was because I had to return it.

Excellent game, though!

Did you try to unlock the 10 hidden characters by beating each Story Mode chapter on Master?

Oh, now that you mention it I never got round to doing the story mode on higher difficulties, and some of them DID give me problems on normal. So maybe that's what people were referring to.

Hitting the 'p' in 'produce' now plays a little musical jingle. Anyone recognize it? (I don't!)

Clicking the "C" in Coming Soon, brings you to the Let's Catch page.

This is probably something Prope-related, me thinks.

(Listening to the 8-bit sound effects again, I thought it sounded like something from Kid Icarus or Balloon Flight, but after watching YouTube videos of both games, I think I'm mistaken.)

Very GBA-like, particularly reminding me of Game & Watch Gallery 4.

I checked out the emblems in GX. There's a red mushroom, a green mushroom, and a blue mushroom, but they're traditional Mario shrooms, nothing like the one here.

Nintendo should get working on a Wii F-Zero though. I'd like to see them try to top GX.

The mushroom now turns red and shimmies all around when poked, and there's a japanese message/sound clip added. Anyone wish to take a crack at what it's babbling?

A mushroom enlarging, becoming red and then jumping up and down? You know, coupled with the middle symbol in the lower right corner, one might get the idea this is some sort of hentai game.

It's something like "oh, a mushroom! When it comes to mushrooms, that's the sort of thing you think of!" One of those famously meaningless Japanese sentences, at any rate. The tone of the voice is the same you hear on Japanese game shows, and the text says something like--I'm not breaking out my dictionary for this--"2009, fixing the problem of explosive laughter in the world game industry."

My expectations are lowered.
