Re: Post your artwork (56k warning)
A simple MS Paint doodle illustrating a concept for a Sonic boss I came up with.
It's got slight, unintentional similarities to SLZ's boss however. :(

Clever. I like. Were you thinking 2D or 3D?

Patent that before SEGA takes that as their own.

2D. I don't think the block-pushing would work well in three dimensions.DackAttac wrote:Clever. I like. Were you thinking 2D or 3D?
And adds cheap insta-death hits and at least 2 of Sonic's buddies at each side of the arena constantly encouraging him loudly.Oompa Star wrote:Patent that before SEGA takes that as their own.

We should have a "boss concept" contest someday. Just saying.

I do find it curious that this was such a common thing in the 2D games and yet they haven't tried to incorporate it at all. I'm thinking that if you pick things up and carry them with, in the spirit of the Adventures, the Y button... maybe if there's a big item such as a block, you can latch onto it with the Y button, and push and pull it where you'd like it to go, release with another hit of the Y button.P.P.A. wrote:2D. PS - Not trying to dick with your design or anything. Just musing out loud.

I don't think that pushing objects jives with the current design philosophy where Sonic must be going as fast as possible at all times. Off the top of my head I actually can't think of anything that needed pushing outside of Sonic 1? Pushing is probably harder to program, too, but I guess that's what the Havoc engine was for. Oh wait, it wasn't.

There was definitely block-pushing in the 360's Werehog stages, so...

Re: Post your artwork (56k warning)
The problem with 3D block pushing would be that it takes too long. It's a difference whether you just have to push a block to the left or the right a little or if you have to arrange it around in 3D, pushing it forward and left and right (all while, in this case, Robotnik is still attacking you).
I could see this boss fight work in 3D though if the whole arena was filled with conveyor belts that automatically bring the blocks into the right position in the first half, and then become disables in the second.

I could totally see that as a boss in a Sonic game. If you told me that it actually was a boss in some 2D game I missed (let's say Sonic Advance 2, since I haven't played that one) I'd believe you.
However, the thought of it being in 3D brings Zelda/Soul Revier-style block pushing to mind, where you either have precise slow control or fast inaccurate control. It could maybe work if you had to pick it up (as Dack mentioned) and didn't lose too much speed.

Re: Post your artwork (56k warning)
Well, if I gonna join the GHZ I might as well plug some of my art here. Most of it's on my deviantArt (http://turtleguy.deviantart.com/gallery/#_featured), so I'll just post a few notable ones here.
My medium of preference is little more than what it started as: pencil doodles on notebook paper, but I'd like to think I'm a little better at it now than I was in middle school, memorizing Sonic's little details while squinting at my Sonic Spinball cartridge. =D

Oh, and I did a clay Majora's Mask once. That was kinda cool.

So, I just figured I might as well put my stuff up. Comment, or don't, whichever.

Some of these are pretty good. I like the Perfect Cha-oh god why is Big kissing Blaze

I fixed the rock in mine. Looks a bit better now I think.

Re: Post your artwork (56k warning)
About that Big X Blaze picture... im pretty sure those two are eachothers "interdimensional counterparts", meaning that just like Eggman Nega is the Eggman of another dimension, Blaze is the Big of another dimension. I mean, think about it: they're both cats, both purple, both have names that begins with a "B"; there is really no question about it! So in a way, what they're doing in that picture is having some hanky-panky with themselves. Interdimensional masturbation, if you will.

Very nice. Even before the game is out, you've made fanart. And I like it.
