Possibly a reference to the old SoA Sonic continuity.

I just want to know where Eggmanland is and whether it's a kingdom or a theme park.

At the risk of setting myself up for disappointment, this does look pretty fucking good. The only real potential problem I can see is the ineffectiveness of the enemies, they seem too far and few and quite dull in design. Although I would LOVE to see another sprawling epic style Sonic platformer, like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, this seems to otherwise hit all the right beats.

Funny how you collect cassette tapes for movie clips, haven't seen a VHS cassette in a long time.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Well, the change in tone is certainly nice, but for whatever reason, developers seem to think (and generally, are correct) that they need to develop plotlines.Dasher wrote:Also, SSBB might have been the last Spark that Sonic Needed, But I think other Games like Sonic Rush and even Secret Rings have helped Sonic a lot these days in bringing his old charm back and losing all the heavy Emo stuff, Here is hoping this game does OK.
Unfortunately, they usually end up clumsy, and instead of making engaging plotlines, they create sad ones.

The woman representing Sega during the X-play footage mentioned that Adabat is supposed to represent south east asia. She specifically mentioned Thailand. I think they're going for an Ankor Watt feel for the second half of the level.Zeta wrote:So . . .Apotos, Spagonia, Mazuri, Chun-nan, Holoska, Shamar, Empire City, Eggmanland, Adabat

I guess Sonic lets South America float out into space, then.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
I like it how the guy talking in the trailer said that they brought back classic sonic platforming and then it turns out it's only like 3 seconds in the entire level. This game definitely looks like classic sonic rush gameplay, which is cool I guess.

Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Yeah, I chuckled at that too. He says "You can see here we've brought back classic platforming, which the fans have been asking for" and it literally consists of Sonic jumping across three platforms then going back to his boost-a-thon. Because we've obviously just been asking for you guys to put more platforms in Sonic games, right? We definitely didn't want more platforming-oriented level design, or anything.
This is kind of like... If the next Mario game has more pipes, and someone is trying to get you excited about it.

I'm of the same mind. Werehog stages aside, this game looks really fun. It's Sonic Rush Adventure with a fancy 3D coating, and I can dig it.Crazy Penguin wrote:At the risk of setting myself up for disappointment, this does look pretty fucking good. Re: Sonic Unleashed?
Even the Werehog stages don't look that bad to me. If this game were "Sonic & Ristar" I'd wager some of you folks wouldn't be complaining nearly as much. My mentality is that since this game managed to narrow down the number of playable characters to only 2, and both of those characters play styles involve platforming or otherwise reasonable game play in some form, then it works for me.

I want to like this game, and I feel myself becoming warmer to it with each new element they introduce (were-Sonic notwithstanding)m but I'm worry that it's all placation.

And I sense he has a particular preference towards keeping Europe and the surrounding region intact. HMM.
