I don't know if Ohshima was involved (Toriyama did the character designs, I'm quite sure), but didn't Artoon do some work on Blue Dragon?

He's credited as being one of two "Executive Producers" on MobyGames. That's a pivotal role, right?

I just ordered use Blinx 1 on ebay (for 8€ or 9€ plus shipping). Ritz's stories did scare me a little, but I won't run from a challenge that easily!

Incidentally, I thought that game sucked too. Maybe the demo just wasn't very flattering, I dunno.gr4yJ4Y wrote:I don't know if Ohshima was involved (Toriyama did the character designs, I'm quite sure), but didn't Artoon do some work on Blue Dragon?

I've never played Blue Dragon, but it looked interesting. The reviews I've read said that everything is fairly cliché as far as JRPGs go.
I thought it was worth mentioning since we were listing games Ohshima has worked on.

Blue Dragon is pretty insipid. I imagine that's Artoon's fault, because Lost Odyssey is pretty cool.

Lost Odyssey needed a turn-off random encounters option, especially when you had to backtrack to previous places for sidequests.

Re: Prope outlines company philosophy
What game was it that automatically skipped random battles when the enemy levels were so low you couldn't possibly benefit from them? I think it was something on the Super. It was a brilliant idea that took all the pain out of backtracking and I'm amazed it's never been done again. I know in Final Fantasy you can let weak enemies escape, but you don't get the EXP and you're still warped into the combat menu which is just as much of a pain in the ass.

Re: Prope outlines company philosophy
CT's battles weren't random.
The game you possibly could be talking about is Earthbound/Mother 2, where you automatically skip the battle when encountering weak foes. However, that game didn't have random battles. Though, Breath of Fire 2, which does have random battles, did have an enemy encounter meter which depending how strong you were, lowered the encounter rate of weaker enemies on certain fields.

Or do it like Grandia, just invent a incredibly awesome battle system that makes even minor battles lots of fun.
Grandia doesn't have REs either though.

Wild ARMs Advanced 3rd. You could also avoid enemy encounters at and beyond your party's level, but only so many times before you are forced into them (surprise battles notwithstanding). Though the battle engine itself just isn't much fun, and you will probably want to let the A.I. play them for you in fully automatic mode.Green Gibbon! wrote:What game was it that automatically skipped random battles when the enemy levels were so low you couldn't possibly benefit from them?

The other thing Earthbound did was make it so the enemies roaming around the map would actually run away from you once you got high enough. That was a satisfying thing to see.

The original Paper Mario had a badge that could do something to that extent as well (weak enough enemies were automatically KO'd).

Is this the same Games™ that is sold in the UK? I bought the latest issue (number 72 with the Halo Wars cover), but couldn't find anything about Prope.FlashTHD wrote:Couldn't think of a better topic to bump, so here this is again.
Games™ (the last games magazine I have some degree of trust/interest left for, and it's not even from my country for chrissakes) did a 2 or 3 page thing on their trip to the Prope offices. Since I didn't bring my wallet to the bookstore, couldn't buy it. Here's what I remember, though most of it is confirmation of older info:

Yes it tis. I live in the states, but Barnes & Noble bookstores opts to carry foreign magazines I guess, since it's the only store I see it in. Can't imagine we'd get the thing before you guys though.big_smile wrote:Is this the same Games™ that is sold in the UK? Well, at least we can assume they've been working on it for two years. Unlike most of their Sonic games.
