Ristar

Post by Cuckooguy »

Got a simple question. I read up once that Ristar was dramatically changed to another title and had all the sprites changed when it was localized to some other region. However, I've since forgotten what it was and was hoping someone here remembered. Wikipedia has failed me and if I remember correctly a long time ago the Sonic-Cult covered it, but after searching it turns out it's gone. Does anyone know the game in question?

I know Tec Toy messed with alot of Sega's Master System games, completely refitting them with popular Brazilian characters. Maybe you're thinking of one of those?

K, I figured it out. Apparently my brain kept telling me I was looking for a version that was released in Brazil (even before GG! mentioned it) and it turns out I was really looking for the prototype version called Feel, which Wikipedia mentions, but I must've skimmed over that because my memory convinced myself it was released elsewhere like this. Anyway I was talking about this. Thanks anyway.

Hideous indeed. I don't like the final Ristar's design either though. I wouldn't mind if it was a star with limbs and a face, but it's some sort of blank black sphere with limbs and a star with a face sticked to it! It looks so.. unsettling.

What. Ristar does look creepy. You look at him and he smiles at you nicely and then you notice that sphere of evil lurking behind the pretendous face. The black ball just looks so completely out of place. As if it'd be wearing the star shape as a mask to hide his sadistic intentions; as if some sort of black (only referring to the colour. I'm not a racist and have no problems with people of any other race!) Kirby/Pac-Man went up to Stafy, ripped off his face and now runs around wearing it. While stretching his arms.
It probably wouldn't be as bad if the star shape was somewhat connected to the dark globe, part of it wrapping around it or something. Or if the sphere was a little smaller.

Also I just noticed I should have used "stuck" in the above post. Whatever.

But how would he have limbs if he was just the star? It'd look exactly like Stafy with a limb poking out of each point. I assure you, it'd look pretty retarded.

See, that's why I thought it looked badass. Like he might be some kind of superhero. Or maybe he was just born like that. Either way, round, spherical things looked cool in that style of graphic. Especially going back to it after the fact, after 3D's takeover ensured that perfect spheres would be an unattainable holy grail.

But... shooting stars are spherical meteoroids. It all makes sense.
Gloves and sneakers are there because they look cool.
