This is huge. Like, whale dick huge. This is like if someone found a living tribe of neanderthals in an underground cave or something. I don't think anyone in the world had any reasonable hope that this film still existed in its complete form anywhere on the planet. Even the most complete restorations out there right now - hobbled together from surviving framents - are still missing about a half hour of footage.

My day is officially made. And if you have never seen this movie (and I'm going to assume most of you ill-educated cock mongrels haven't), you need to set aside an evening to do so. Though at this point I'd advise waiting a couple years for the complete cut.

Yeah, I was definitely excited when I read this news. Metropolis is an astounding film and I greatly look forward to seeing what Fritz actually produced rather than explanatory title cards. I absolutely can't believe that, of all places, they found that negative here. Though they could as well find an original copy of the Mein Kampf if they tried hard enough, I definitely wasn't seeing this coming.
As always, almost zero media coverage of this event on most local newspapers, people is too busy sinking to new lows to defend just another utterly corrupt government of an underdeveloped country.

It's a massive pain in the ass to start to get into a flick and then have to start reading title cards explaining what you would be happening if parts of the movie hadn't been missing. I can't wait to see this in its (near) entirety (they're still missing five minutes, apparently).

Now I will have to update my KINO DVD. I'm so glad that pieces of this Cyberpunk classic are still being un-earthed.

My next big wish is the discovery of a complete print of Nosferatu and Lost World.

And that's the budget singular DVD releaser. The Criterion Collection will first come out with a 3 DVD set and then eventually come out with a stripped down version at a fraction of the price.
You have to remember that this is still public domain material. So who ever have the largest wad of cash to buy a digital transfer of the elements will be the first to release after clogging up the pipe line long enough to halter the competition.

I personally hope KINO gets the restoration rights since their cut of the release was the superior of the few other versions I have on DVD. And this also raises the question; who bought the elements?
