Bubble... bubble wrap?
I downloaded this WiiWare game where the object is to pop bubble wrap.
That's it.
You pop bubble wrap.
Each bubble pops slightly differently. Sometimes you get a crisp, satisfying "SNAP" and sometimes you get a little dud "POOT" like a huge, bloated fart that ends up being an airy toot that doesn't even smell. Each pop is accompanied by a gentle vibration that very accurately simulates the sensation of crushing a thin, air-filled plastic sac beneath your thumb. It's pretty impressive.
There's a couple of different modes. In one, you pop bubble wrap over a picture and if you can time your pops consistently, you get "multiplier" pops that cause chain reactions. Clear all the bubbles and you get a purdy picture underneath. There's another mode where this professor dude makes you play these minigames (like bubble-popping "twinkle twinkle little star" to the beat) and then offers some advice on your stress level, or something of the like. I really have no idea what's going on.
Supposedly it's based on a new toy from Bandai that simulates real bubble wrap, except it can be used over and over again. I think that's pretty amazing in and of itself and I wonder why it took our society this long to come up with it.
So far I haven't figured out if there's a way to twist the paper and pop dozens of bubbles at once, but I think that might be cheating.
I can't put it down.

That sounds addictive and strange and awesome and like something I should avoid for the sake of my free time.

Wait, is it even out in the states, or are you just being super pretentious and only referring to it by its Japanese title even though you got it on an American-region Wii?

At first I thought you were speaking of the WiiWare game called Pop... but from your own bizzare perspective.
Only Japan would find a way to make a game like this.

Good job detecting sarcasm, Oompa. You're real good at it.

Sorry, I got carried away. Getting only three hours of sleep the night before can hinder one's mental functioning.

Doesn't have enough farting cats (which Ouchi de Mugen Puchi Puchi has, by the way).

It's hard enough finding an American Wii. How in the sphincter of Hell are you gonna find a Japanese one?

I was in the electronics district of Tokyo (Akihabara) last week, and a dude was wheeling about fifty Wiis in front of him down the street. Nobody was really interested in him, and he didn't seem to expect any extra attention.

Re: Bubble... bubble wrap?
To my knowledge, there is not and has never really been a shortage in Japan except right after launch, and that was only for a couple of months. It's actually pretty amazing that the systems are still so hard to get here. If I were a more paranoid sort, I'd swear Nintendo was deliberately orchestrating shortages (it wouldn't be the first time or anything).

Pretty sure that actually was the case, as they prioritized Europe over America for a while.

Re: Bubble... bubble wrap?
Considering you didn't even get Brawl until last month, certainly.
I dunno, waiting for Brawl was the shiznit, but once it finally came out, I played it for a fortnight or so, and then just... stopped. I can't be the only one... can I?

I'm guessing here but you have this to thank for much of that.Shadow Hog wrote:I dunno, waiting for Brawl was the shiznit, but once it finally came out, I played it for a fortnight or so, and then just... stopped. I can't be the only one... can I?

Re: Bubble... bubble wrap?
Well, personally I was blaming my addiction to Team Fortress 2 totally eclipsing more or less any other game I own, but yeah, having the entire game spoiled for me (barring the Subspace Emissary, which was rather weak as it was) might have something to do with it. That or having played Melee to the point of boredom. I dunno.

Re: Bubble... bubble wrap?
I'm waiting til pay day, but I have a friend who bought it. We had a few joints and thrashed it out to get Sonic playable, but apart from the novelty it wasn't really that worth it, since I'm still playing as Falco. I dunno, I like it so far. It's like Melee's flashier, financially-successful older brother, screeching up in a Lamborghini and flicking a wad of twenties at you for your birthday, albiet a couple of months late.
Lost myself in that analogy. Yeah, it's good. Time will tell once I get stuck into SSE myself, though. Also, we should hook up sometime on TF2. I never play it anymore and I should. Is that patch out?

Re: Bubble... bubble wrap?
Depends on what patch you mean. Both the Medic and the Pyro have gotten updates, and the Heavy is the next in line, with several minor patches here and there slapped inbetween.
