Holy shit! Captain Syrup is awesome. She always deserved to be Wario's arch-villain.

The character designs for the animated sequences rock and the graphics look crappy, though those really are tiny screens. Maybe those are high-res 2D backgrounds (think VanillaWare) with richly detailed 3D models on them?

Hey, this is actually becoming interesting.
Of the Wario Land games I unfortunately only played SML3: Wario Land (which I loved, great game) and Wario World before, I really have to get the other 3 one day. :/

Captain Syrup? Let's just hope the gameplay is as back to the basics as the premise is.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
I'm surprised people are so down on the graphics! Admittedly, those screenshots are pretty tiny, but the detailing on the jungle and temple environments in particular seem to look quite nice! I'm really excited about seeing a console platformer with actual 2D graphics instead of this endless 2 1/2 D stuff.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
I'm not down on the graphics, I'm more annoyed that we are getting minuscule screen shots for this game. There is no way you can accurately judge how good or how bad these graphics look on these tinny shots. Perhaps we will get larger screens near E3.

Anyway, my excitement for this game has just been ramped up several THOUSAND degrees. Here's hoping we get release dates for the US/Europe soon!

I dunno about you guys, but I would call these scans plenty big.
Looks like Wario remains vulnerable. Bleh. Still, I was under the impression that WL1 and WL4 pulled that off just fine - although those being the two titles in the series that I HAVEN'T played extensively, I can't really say. (Looking into eBay prices right now, actually... they're quite cheap, so I might cave in.)

Awesome.
Woudln't it be hilarious if playable Waluigi was the reward for 100% completion? Would it be too much to ask to have Wario, Mona and the WW gang, Waluigi, and Captain Syrup all in one game finally?

I hope Waluigi has some kind of role in this game, but won't be surprised if he didn't.

Who the hell likes Waluigi? Besides, he's never really gotten out of second-party spinoff series party games, so I'd guess his chances of being playable are slim to nil, thank God.Zeta wrote:Awesome.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
It's not that I like him. It's that I'd just like the three different Wario supporting casts (Wario Land, Wario Ware, and Waluigi) to all be in one game instead of being treated as desperate and contradictory entities. I'd like Waluigi more if he actually showed up anywhere else so his real nature could be established - actually a relative of Wario's, or creepy stalker?

Man, traditional 2D cel animation character sprites! Whoever signed off on that deserves a raise.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
I would really like Waluigi to exist as something other than a cheap knockoff character who only seems to serve to demonstrate what a cheap knockoff operation Mario spinoffs are.
Is it just me or is that enemy he's shaking in the clip art of the first scan wearing Sonic shoes?

Re: Shake a Fat Man
So, I'm wondering how this will play. Will it basically just be the old Wario Land games, but with some added moves which require a bit of shaking? Or, are they ditching pretty much the entire formula from before in favor of a shake-only design? I can only hope it's the former, seeing as butt-stomping and tackling are Wario's bread-and-butter (ignoring whatever Brawl thought it was), and a Wario Land title without said moves is hardly a Wario Land game at all.
I know that IGN claims there will be vehicles, which sounds like a first for Wario - although it probably won't be all that different from his various transformations from the prior games, and thus would fit like a glove.
As for Captain Syrup, her goal in the plot doesn't make any sense. Apparently there's a globe with a hidden world on it (like the music box from Wario Land 3, I guess), which conveniently has a vast treasure on it. Syrup wants this for herself, so she steals the globe and... sends it to Wario. Who immediately goes after the treasure for himself. C'mon, Syrup, why the hell do you send the globe off to him to let him get the treasure? You seriously expect to outdo the guy you've been bested by twice now (counting the numerous climactic showdowns against her you can have in Wario Land 2 as just one)?
This will be one interesting plot (or at least as interesting as Wario games will ever get), for certain.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
From the scans, it looks like it'd be the former--I can spot at least two of Wario's old moves from WL4 (his throw and charging headbutt).
Also, is it just me, or does Captain Syrup seem incredibly hot? I could definitely see her becoming a sort of "anti-Peach" to Wario, too--which, frankly, would be hilariously awesome.

The enemy Wario's shaking reminds me of Bomb from Chaotix, only bomb had no face.

Enemy throwing was a big part of Wario Land 2, so I can see the shaking aspect working.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
I like Waluigi a lot, thank you very much. He might be a knockoff character but he's hilarious and totally evil and creepy in ways that no other Mario character can be. I think he's a really good addition to the multiplayer games (the very shape of his design would make him an odd choice for a platform game, though), and he makes an interesting compliment to Wario. I mean come on, if there's a Wario then there really ought to be a Waluigi, and then it turns out that he's just absolutely demented. I wouldn't want to see him in a platform game but I think he makes a much better addition to the multiplayer roster than all those fucking babies.
I think Mona would have also been a good choice for "Team Wario" (ie Mario Tennis or Double Dash) but it only makes sense if you've played WarioWare, whereas the relationship between Wario and Waluigi is obvious without any explanation. I see why they did it.

Re: Shake a Fat Man
I've had the idea for the longest time now that a Mario & Luigi 3 should involve the titular brothers having to work alongside Wario and Waluigi. Just imagine what kind of Bros. Attacks they could come up with.
