Space Channel 5 coming to Wii
Long rumored, finally confirmed. It's supposed to be a remake, but there's not much info:

It's very nice to see this company remembering they have franchises besides Sonic again. Now if only they would announce Crazy Taxi 4, Panzer Dragoon 5, and Jet Set Radio 3.

Don't. Just, don't.Zeta wrote:Panzer Dragoon 5
Orta was bad enough - I can't even begin to imagine what another mediocre sequel could do to my beloved Saturn franchise.

I don't recall Orta being all that bad, actually. Maybe a smidgen less imaginative as its Saturn brethren but by no means bad.
But honestly, I'd rather have a second RPG than a fourth shoot-'em-up.

Orta wasn't bad for a rail shooter - but it certainly was no Panzer Dragoon.
It lacked more than Team Andromeda's distinctive visual style.
I can't put my finger on it, though.
Another RPG would make my day, though.

So, I guess this makes Beat the ONLY starting character in SEGA Superstar Tennis whose franchise is still currently inactive. Every other character either is or is going to be in a new Wii game. Maybe they really ARE thinking of resurrecting JSR...

I just hope space channel 5 for wii does not control like ass. That game requires really precise controls and timing and I don't think sega can pull off making the controls work on the wiimote.

Re: Space Channel 5 coming to Wii
Space Channel 5 is just the kind of unique experience that one would expect to find on something quirky as the Wii, so in spirit, it's a perfect match. However, controlling with the Wiimote will ruin the game and I have a bad feeling they're imagining stock footage of people dancing around because using Wiimote controls invites the opporunity, and since everyone's always smiling in those stupid things, they're willing to take the game's anal virginity in the name of "progress," in the way a stuffed-suit-boardroom would define the word.

Re: Space Channel 5 coming to Wii
I think Silv nailed it in another thread a while back when he said the problem was that Smilebit tried too hard to produce a game in the same vein as the original three (particularly Zwei) and ended up making the experience feel sort of artificial. It's like they found their own little uncanny valley.Simmerl wrote:Orta wasn't bad for a rail shooter - but it certainly was no Panzer Dragoon.

They also took liberties with the events following the end of Saga, something that Futatsugi and Team Andromeda never intended. To be fair Futatsugi said there were no hard feelings in an interview with 1up's James Mielke (from that one feature I reference all the time), but it does help to explain the difference in tone from the previous entries.
I'm okay with never getting another Panzer Dragoon, though.

The timing here is just suspicious. In this interview Miz says cryptically that he'd remake SC5 if he saw "a reason for it," which suggested to me he was just being condescending to a fannish interviewer. Is it not the same news, just grossly misinterpreted? Also, I cannot read a word of that.

Re: Space Channel 5 coming to Wii
Hey now, I liked Orta. It was no Azel, but I thought it was at least as good as Zwei (granted, it's been years since I played Zwei). It's my favorite Xbox game possibly barring only Psychonauts - infact, I think it was the last Sega game I played that was any damn good at all.
I don't think it's at all surprising that Sega would revive Space Channel 5. I also don't think there's any possiblity of it being good. Mizuguchi has no say in the matter unless he buys the license back.
