I hate that when a show's dubbed, they cut off lots of interesting bits and try to make it kid-friendly. Screw that, what did they think Cartoon Network is for!?

Ummm...have you see any of the Sonic X original Japanese epsiode. I've seen the first 26 (yet to see the other half in original japanese yet) and I've compared them with the dubbed. Sonic X in japan is just as kiddy in the American one, if not kiddy compare to tons of other anime. Sheesh.

Yeah, but with most dubs they're god-awful. And, if there is anything rude or violent in the originals they usually cut it out for no reason, Sonic X or not.

They have a reason. They cut it out so no soccer moms won't hound on their doors complaining their kids are watching whatever that they cut out. This ain't Japan. Japan and America are two different cultures and believe in two different thigns concerning anime. What is okay in Japan ain't in America at times.
I don't care if you hate dubs, but most of time, they cut out the rude/violent partys because it's not normally accepted in their land.

Does anyone knows when Sonic X will be aired in Brazil? And I could swear it was being aired in the U.S. by Fox Block/Fox Kids/Jetix.

Actually, a hell of a lot of things get changed for no good reason whatsoever. Names - even American ones, signs - even written in English, music, commercials, plots.

And then there's the fact that lately a lot of anime geared towards teenagers has been re-packaged and heavily edited so it's geared for 5-10 year olds - which royally fucks up the whole tone of the show.

She didn't look like Halle Berry in the first place, ass-hat. Because one's a woman and the other's a goddamn cartoon bat. If Rouge looks like Halle Berry solely because she and Halle Berry have dark skin, than Sonic must look like George W. Bush because they both have caucasian skin.

They look like those "Yak Bak" things that they used to sell years ago. Where you could record your voice and speed it up or slow it down. But that's just a guess. I had one that was also a pen.

Yeah, Sonic X contains very little offensive content to be edited. The only thing I can think of that needs to be changed to air on a Saturday Morning is Sonic shouting "Shit!" in plain english, in the second episode. There is no blood, and depending on how you translate certain lines, there is no offensive/sexual content.

The rest of the anime that's dubbed sucks because often times the people who liscence it don't know what the hell they're doing. They grab a liscence because they want the money from all the merchandising but fail to think about the kind of fanbase the TV show caters to. And then they hack it to pieces to cater to the new, more gullible fanbase (children).

That's why I prefer anime be dubbed for DVD and THEN get edited to put on TV - the way I see it, if you wanna watch anime for free, watch it on TV, but if you wanna watch anime uncut (and with a Japanese language track), buy the DVD. Even Funimation has talked 4KIDS into releasing uncut DVDs recently.

True that. Macross was completely butchered as "Robotech." SDF-2? STFU.

I jest not. Funimation, whom does DVD publishing of Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King managed to get 4KIDS to agree on letting them produce uncut DVDs of both series, with the Japanese Language tracks in-tact.

Funimation rawks. Their dubs of Lupin III: Persuit Of Harimao's Treasure and Lupin III: Secret Of Twilight Gemini have been released in their completely uncut versions on DVD. They're all right in my book. I'm sure eventually they'll have a go at releasing some uncut Sonic X action. If not, there's always hate mail I guess.

Does 4Kids do the Rockman.exe dub? Funi might be able to get their hands on that too...let's fucking hope so 'cause what I've seen of it on Fox Kids is complete toss.

Wait, what are you guys talking about?

I have Volume 1 of the FoxBox release of Sonic X on my desk right now... Just picked it up yesterday when at Fry's getting the last of my computer parts. It says it's distributed by Funimations, and it also says 4Kids Home Video on the back. This is not the only volume, as they also had Volume 2 sitting next to it, but I decided to see how lame it was going to be before buying the rest of them. So yeah.

I can take pictures of it later. I'm still configuring my new computer (and it's sweet).

And no, there's no Japanese audio track. Unfortunately.

dubbed over = shitty result + enraged fans
That's the rule. Believe me, I would rather watch Sonic X in english (or any other language) than in portuguese. Why does every dubbing in E games and animes have to be children-directed? Stupid soccer moms...

A company called ShoPro does the Megaman NT Warrior Dub, with "creative consulting" (read: conceptual butchering) by the KidsWB certification staff. They also did The Inu-Yasha and Hamtaro Dubs, respectively, both of which were actually somewhat faithfully translated (script-writing-wise - which leads us to where KidsWB's "creative consulting" butchers the dub of Megaman).

Actually, a hell of a lot of things get changed for no good reason whatsoever. Names - even American ones, signs - even written in English, music, commercials, plots.

The names I can understand (I was surprised that 4Kids pretty much kept all the main character's name, including the human's from their original), and as for signs and whatnot, well, their reason is simply because they want to americanized the show. It's a reason why YuGiOh on the dub is set in America when it's originally in Japan. Apparently, they (the dubbers) think if it was all japanese, the kids would all go "huh?" It's a very stupid reason (look at Digimon, they admit they're in Japan for pete's sake), but there's the reason.
And then there's the fact that lately a lot of anime geared towards teenagers has been re-packaged and heavily edited so it's geared for 5-10 year olds - which royally fucks up the whole tone of the show.
While I mostly am talking of Sonic X, I can understand what you're saying. While I am mostly the type to "watch whatever is on" since I can't usually get uncutted regular animes (since most are online and I doubt I can use my parent's credit card...yet), I understand what you are going about. I forgive most dubbed anime though. Infact, the only one I haven't is Cardcaptor Sakura. The dubbers killed that show.
