Just the concept of a music update was pretty cool for me. I thought this would be bare-bones, import-only soundtrack for Sonic. I guess they're actually working to put a good deal of his franchise in here.

An Angel Island stage wouldn't be too bad; it fits with the idea of "change" that a lot of the other levels seem to have. For instance, it could be set on fire by the sub-boss occasionally, damaging any players that step on the fire. Of course, I would squee for a Chemical Plant Zone with remix, but that's what the level editior's for.

EDIT: Also, he mentioned Knuckles by name. I wonder if that raises the chances of him being an Assist Trophy...

Although I hope I'm wrong, Sonic's stage is bound to be one of them fast moving stages a la Big Blue from Melee.

And full of bottomless pits if Sonic Team is making it, which is possible considering that Hideo Kojima designed the MGS stage.

I don't think that will a problem. It's obligatory for most Smash Bros. stages to have a bottomless pit.

I think Stardust Speedway would be a good Big Blue type Sonic Stage with Metal Sonic being the stage hazard.

To be fair, it's the guitar that saved the first soundtrack from being a synth hellhole and brought some incredible balance to the score. SA1, musically, is top notch. Unfortunately, the only positive arrangement decision he's made since was to use the electric sitar in SA2's Rumbling Highway and to use an acoustic guitar in a GUN base level in Shadow whose name I couldn't give a shit less about.

I think the bottom line of guitar in Sonic games is melody=yes, comping=hell no.

Yeah, but it worked because the guitar worked with the rest of the instruments (or "instruments" I guess), only somtimes being the focus of a track. Since then, he's treated the electric guitar like a diva, and frankly I'm tired of it. I'd almost like to see the instrument banned from anything Sonic related for a while.

Amusing how it's almost an EXACT replica of Super Sonic's old Genesis-era flying sprites.

It looks exactly like the Sonic Adventure 1 model.

I think it looks more like the classic Super Sonic from the angle shown in the screenshot that Yami showed us.

Looks like the SA1 model with a deeper shade of yellow. It's my favourite 3D Super Sonic so far.

I like how they upped the contrast on him. I just hope he isn't too cheap.

Barring it from all of Sonic feels a little much, but I would like to see it banned from Jun's writing for a good long time. When he's writing for a vocalist, his hooks are head and shoulders above his score melodies, if there are any at all; most of the time he'll just sleepwalk through a power chord "progression" (read: riff).

I pretty much had that exact viewpoint, though, but the instant that electric guitar cut through the Levitated Ruins BGM on Secret Rings, (and I believe it was Kenichi Tokoi who was in charge of the arrangements on that one, who gets too little credit), I kind of realized that something was missing up until then. It's kind of a sacreligious thought for a 16-bit-borne saga, but keep in mind the music's been penned by a rock star since day one. Really, I'd make a point of owning the Secret Rings soundtrack if it weren't for Steven Conte's ridiculous vocal work (whose name I frequently and intentionally mispronounce).

Food for thought: Last third party dude: Rayman? I mean, Raving Rabbids has become something of a Wii staple.

Only that Rayman isn't precisely the protagonist in Raving Rabbids, but that would be OK.

Of the SatSR soundtrack I only really liked The Palace That Was Found and High And Broken, both probably composed by Tokoi. I generally like Conte's work, but this one was truly abysmal, maybe he'll make up for it in Zero Gravity.

Today's update is another facet of Adventure Mode: a special item called the "Trophy Stand". Basically, you chuck it at weakened enemies (or bosses) and it turns them into trophies, which you then pick up like in Melee.

Kind of like the Pokemon games, in a way...

Also, Rayquaza is confirmed as a boss character.

Essentially, the Trophy Stand functions like a Pokeball. Pretty cool.

Has that Nintendo Wi-Fi Logo always been over in the left column? I just noticed it today. Also, what's the bar with two Smash Bros. logos on the left side of the Adventure mode screenshots? Lives you share for co-op? It wasn't there before.

That series really has nothing to do with Rayman anymore. He's not even featured in the sequel, but his name is still plastered on it, for some reason.

His name's still plastered on it because his name was plastered on the first one, brand names, yada yada.

I've never played or owned the second one, because, as you've said in some other topic, once you have one good mini-game collection, all others become redundant.

I know Megaman's pretty much been passed over, but has there been any word on Bomberman?

I don't think so, but I have seen some pretty well crafted Bomberman in Brawl hoaxes on Youtube. At least some people would like to see him in the game.

since this game has Sonic, it only needs "Bobbies" and explosions, lots of explosions to be my favorite game ever...

I'm more curious why he put the word in quotation marks in that context, especially if he unintentionally misspelled the word "Boobies".

A coin-shooting minigame. Wooohooo. Notice he never referred to buttons by name and mentioned motion-sensing instead of directional input. I guess this is the true power of the Nintendo Wii, everyone.
