For those of you who don't know, Sonic 1 has recently been released for the iPod. It's probably more playable than you might think, but obviously far from ideal. An alternate control scheme allows you to touch the sections of the wheel to move and press the buttons to jump. I thought that was kind of cool. Anyway, for $5, you can't have too many ways to play S1, right? right?!? Now to wait for Sonic 2.

I just noticed something in the game description. (I think you only see it once you download the game.)

One of the goals is: "Collect all six Chaos Emeralds and defeat Dr. Eggman to return South Island to normal."

Didn't the original US Sonic 1 manual refer to Mobius instead of South Island?

They also said "Robotnik" as well!

They're just ditched that mobius crap now, I assume.

None of the US manuals (except possibly Spinball) make any mention of Mobius, they managed to keep the games themselves pretty pure of that garbage.

No, they're talking about the Sonic 1 port that appeared on mobile phones a while back. You may be thinking about Sonic CulT's topic on the iPod port.

On that note, according to the CulT members you can get the game to work on your iPod simply by opening the .ipg with winzip/winrar, extracting "itunesmetadata", and replacing the email address inside with the email address you used for itunes. I've only used one email for the whole itunes setup process (including setting up the Store account), yet replacing it in the metadata file still doesn't let me put the game on my iPod. I'm guessing it could be the fact that I've registered with the australian store rather than the american one, but I wouldn't know what to change. Help would be much appreciated.

Come on, now, I can't be the only one here who thinks Mobius is a really, really cool name for a planet.

I do think Mobius is a cool name. I just prefer the Japanese back stories - not sure why really. Slightly more depth?

Agreed; "Mobius" is a pretty cool name for a planet. The Japanese canon affirms the games take place on an Earth displaced by space and/or time (see the map of the world in Shadow the Hedgehog), so the old Western canon isn't too far off - they just named it something different.

Also, "Robotnik" is a much better name than "Eggman".

Nope, sorry. Lennon never said he was a Robotnik; the name loses.

Robotnik was a cool name, but only because it made funnier the Egg named machines. And it gave us "Badnicks" instead of "Eggman robots"

No, no, you've got your pluralisation wrong. It's "Eggman's robots", as in, "Look at all those Eggman's robots". There, fixed.
