Silent Hill 5!
It's been confirmed for the PS3 and the Xbox 360, and there are a few screenshots available on IGN.

...the bad ending in 1, the obvious conclusion in 2, Walter in 4...aso wrote:They wouldn't use a cop-out ending like that again.
I'm not sure if I'm excited or not. Three sort of felt like the end of the series -- I mean, Alessa finally escaped, in a way -- and four wasn't even supposed to be a Silent Hill game, until they got scard towards the end of development that it wouldn't sell and tacked on a bunch of references. It'd be really cool if the same team told a different horror story.

I've gotta admit that once I heard the developer was The Collective, my interest waned...
... but the recent EGM article made me somewhat hopeful again, though not entirely.
The Good:
Alex doesn't look terribly bad as a main character.
No forced FPS perspective: they're sticking with a more flexible third-person perspective, thankfully.
Some of the monster designs (such as this thing and Zipperhead) are actually somewhat inspired. Also, the Nurses are back to their creepier SH2 form.
Yamaoka is doing the soundtrack and is also going to be around as a sort of consultant.
The Bad:
The story seems sort of iffy, but then not all of the details have been released. Also, pointlessness of the 'war' theme.
The presence of Elle, who may very well be an AI partner.
Increased focus on combat. Makes sense, since Alex is a soldier and all, but definitely takes away from the idea that the character is a 'regular joe', unlike the first four games.
The Collective is developing it. C'mon.
There are a lot of ways they could screw this up, but I'll have to admit that I've been made a little bit more hopeful by this news.

The monster's head is 'opened', as if a zipper had been drawn. However, the hole made with opening also serves as the mouth. It's almost delightfully bizarre.Zeta wrote:I don't.
And, yeah, the Silent Hill movie wasn't as bad as it could've been - once the plot with the psychotic Christian witch-burners came about, then, yeah, it kinda sucked. But everything before that was generally pretty solid - and the real-time transformation between the 'Normal' Silent Hill and the Otherworld 'Silent Hill' was the best part of the package.
Now, if they take cues from the latter half of the flick, or randomly throw in Pyramid Head for no real reason, then I can understand looking down on it.

I really didn't understand the motivation behind changing the villains from demonic worshipers trying to raise a corrupted Native American God to take over the world into crazy witch-burning Christians.
Was the writer some weird militant pagan dude with a grudge against Christianity? I'm no fan of the religion (or any religion) myself, but it was still damn stupid.

Because the idea is more mainstream. And that's exactly what we want to do with a creepy psycho thriller game whose fans sit for hours discussing the smallest of details. Make it mainstream.Zeta wrote:I really didn't understand the motivation behind changing the villains from demonic worshipers trying to raise a corrupted Native American God to take over the world into crazy witch-burning Christians.
