Who Watches the Watchmen?

Post by Opa-Opa »

Anybody excited about the movie? There's now at least a hint of a site:

http://www.rorschachsjournal.com

There's nothing really there about the movie, but it's a bit interesting. There are a few morse codes hidden throughout the site, and what apparently would be Rorschach's email.

I've mailed him and he answered, which was very kind of him, but he's too monossylabic.

I don't know. While a Watchmen movie would obviously be great, it doesn't feel like a story that needs a movie adaptation. 300, Sin City, V For Vendetta ... they all had a shitload of action that looked better in motion that in a comic book, justifying a "moving picture" for each. On the other hand, I can't imagine a Watchmen movie adding anything to the already fully realized and action-lacking graphic novel.

Me neither. But some stories are so good that they must change their media so it can reach more people.

Let's hope it doesn't get shredded in the process.

Neil Gaiman wants to direct a Death movie. Maybe that could lead to a Sandman movie in the future?

He wrote 75 issues of Sandman. If I was him I'd be goddamn DONE with Morpheus. Death, on the other hand, is very popular and she has a lot of story left untold.

No clue, but chances are it'll be fairly entertaining but also largely forgettable. Naturally, that means it'll also be the next big overrated media "event", just like Lost.

J.J. Abrams is a fucking hack. He and his team make it up as they go. Supposedly he got his act together and actually planned out the next three years of Lost, but I doubt the shit's any good.

Without any context Lost is actually pretty funny. I watched a random episode about three weeks ago and three people got shot and one guy drowned. I really wanted to see that polar bear, though. That was really my only intent in watching. I guess it's not on the island anymore or something. Maybe?

I think they killed it, but it's hard to keep track of these things.

In one of the earlier episodes Saheed(sp?) walks all the way around the island and only notices a rope going into the water and nothing else of interest on the shore. In the last season there's a dock with a bunch of modern buildings nearby that have been there for at least 15 or so years. (John Locke blew up a submarine that was there.) I can only guess there's even more plot holes that they forgot to cover up.

I still think it's a pretty good show however.

I don't think Watchmen can be fully translated to film. That story was designed specifically to show what comics could do that film and novels couldn't. As a stand-alone film, it could be good. But, when you put it up against the comic, it won't be able to even touch the original source material.

Overall, I don't think it should be adapted. But, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
