Sonic Xbox 360

Post by jokule81 »

Hi all, apologies if this is an old topic ( I didnt have time to scan thru them all)
BUT.......

I am very disappointed with the xbox 360 Sonic The Hedgehog. I havent even completed it I'm that disillusioned with it, and I have been a fan since the beginning of time (or 1991 :P)

It blatantly rips off Sonic adventure 1, ie the beach level that you start on even has the killer whale in it!! Then you have Soleanna which is just like the City adventure field, or if you are Silver its just like Mystic Ruins.

There is also the snow boarding level, then the Silver level where he's swimming with Turtles (Sonic adventure 2 Lagoon level with Rouge anybody??) I could go on and on, and thats only the levels I've been ar$ed to play :s

Sega or 'Sonic Team' really has sold out on this one, I'll stick to my Kega emulator and think of the good old days thank you very much!!

I don't think "ripping off" past 3D Sonic games was the problem, so much as crappy level design/controls/camera was.

It's too bad they didn't rip off the "being good" idea that older Sonic games had. I think that probably would have been OK.

I choose this sentence is the strongets indicator of a rant that doesn't have a clue what it's talking about or where it's going.

That Sonic the Hedgehog is a mediocre game is correct, but the reasons why have absolutely nothing to do with anything you wrote. Your failure is nearly complete. I have faith in your ability to go all the way.

Well, the dude hates the game - and that's important enough, I think. We all used to have weird ideas of how we though the game industry or one certain company used to work. I rememeber being 14 years old and thinking the reason Sonic X-treme never got released was because the Saturn hardware wasn't good enough, and I considered writing to them saying they could release the Saturn's RAM cart in America in order to help store the game's graphics.

The game was primarily a trainwreck because it wasn't given enough development time, I think. For all the talk of "re-inventing Sonic for the next generation" and "treating this game as if it were the first title on the Sega Genesis", the game largely cuts and pastes bits from the 3D Sonic games (SA1 especially) in to the worst controls a Sonic game could ever suffer from.

Topple on to this a heart-wrenchingly lazy amount of polish (read: there is none) and let bake for 12 months.

That's Sonic 2k6.

Another problem, I think, that contributed to Sonic 2k6's downfall, is the existance of Sonic & The Secret Rings. It was mentioned that Sonic 2k6's team was split, and part of them went off to work on Secret Rings and the other part stayed to work on Sonic 2k6. Clearly, both games share many similar concepts - in particular the Mach Speed Stages and being able to "customize" Sonic's abilities by equipping items - and for the most part, Secret Rings takes a lot of those shared concepts and implements them in a much better, much more streamlined way (or so I've heard).

Good point, how long before we get a good Sonic game? I mean Rush was ok, but ok like a standard gamegear Sonic, not like a kickass game like Sonic 1...

I think the level design in Sonic 2k6 is decent, and certainly a step in the right direction. The levels are much more open and have far more options in terms of where you want to go - quite a few levels are chocked full of multiple (if short) pathways. I like that.

It's just... poor enemy design and awful controls kind of ruin it. Plus, while some sections are nice, others are not (Kingdom Valley part 2, Kingdom Valley part 3, I'm looking at you)

If it were a dancing game like Space Channel 5, it would be much better.

Owen, if my 'rant' is so clueless then why bother posting your comments on it? Each to their own, better still why don't you tell me the reasons its mediocre if you're such a genius

To belittle you. Because belittling is fun. I don't know what scarce elements would be left here without it. I sure wouldn't be one. So, uh, my turn.

Shadow was selling out to the emo kids and the Halo clique. Riders was, to a lesser degree, selling out to the skater-punk wannabe's. But Sonic 2K6 was, at its premise, an entry that tried to be more Sonic-esque in its approach by, like you said "ripping off" the earlier games, (or as a PR exec put it, making it a "greatest hits" of sorts).

So, by your logic, the new Sonic game is totally selling out by appealing exclusively to the series' own fans.

You're right. Those bastards.

He, everyone here and their dog did just that here about a month ago. You can say you suspect it's an old topic and refuse to use the search function or even go past the first page, I suppose that's standard internet fare. But then to neglect your initial instinct that since this topic is so ridiculously dated it must have been previously discussed and bitching Owen out for not stating the opinions that he did in fact state but you were just too lazy to find? That's just an ignorance éclaire... with a savory incompetence cream filling. Just like granddad used to make.

...Well, shit. I'm hungry now. Screw this post

I like how a fellow Sonic fan commenting on their dislike of Sonic 360 has paved the way to yet another fine example of the internet at its best: fellow nerds finding a reason to badmouth each other at every opportunity. It wasn't enough that we dealt with this shit in high school, we have to go and create a social ladder in a virtual world too.

OK, so the guy didn't like Sonic 360 for reasons that you and Owen have established for yourselves as the reasons why it sucks. Is the crucifying really all that necessary? I mean, really.

Belittling really IS fun. And when it's at least remotely justified, then the subject of said belittlement just might learn a thing or two that will benefit him or her in future debates.

It's a public service, really.

Well Dack and Owen I am glad you have found time in between bumming each other to post your comments on my forum.

Belittling is a public service? Yeah if you're a pre-pubescent 13 year old who has no life.

PS Dont forget my civil partnership ceremony invite

Your right Parn, there is no need for the crucification I was only wondering if anyone shared my views that Sonic had ripped off most the levels from SA1 & 2

Sorry if I forgot to go to fcuking forum school Dack I know its an old topic, I know the game was released last year, but not everyone has time to spend hours on the net looking thru past forums which I now wish I had as I've obviously broke some geek law about what I am supposed to say.

Um, jokule81, you uh... you realize that what you did just now is the equivalent of slitting your arm open with a knife, and then sticking it into a tank full of hungry sharks while bleeding profusely?

You pretty much went on the offensive there, and I was willing to defend you since I felt they were way out of line at the start, but you're on your own at this point. Aaaaaaaaaand I'm out.

If you ask me, everybody in this thread is retarded for immediately barking insults everywhere at the drop of a hat.

Cripes, I know the GHZ is known for housing crabby old Sonic fans, but jeeze.

The insults being thrown about may seem harsh, but really. You know how SegaSonic is always bitching about how the 4Kids voice actors single-handedly ruined all the recent Sonic games for him? And everyone was quick to point out that there were much bigger problems he should be worrying about? Well, this is basically the same thing, except this time, the complaint isn't even valid. Oh no, the levels in Sonic2k6 are reminiscent of older Sonic levels?! The same could be said for pretty much every Sonic game ever, and its even more retarded to use that complaint on the game's first level, given that almost all Sonics start with an obligatory "Green Hill Variation Zone".

My basis for that little tirade wasn't his grammar structure or misuse of phrasing. God knows I've done enough of that myself in the last few hours when I made the mistake of taking Claritin with Mountain Dew. The offenses I actually had qualms over were:

1) The lack of knowledge of how frequently insults are flung around here like confetti by getting defensive instead of dismissive with Owen's admittedly brash remarks

2) Demonstrating so by simply returning the harsh words against the lone dissenter instead of conversing with any the five people who were willing to pleasantly engage him in this discussion, deciding his first thread should be a war zone instead of an introduction

3) His "if you disagree with me, stay out of my topic" tone of reply

4) Contradicting his initial redeeming admission that he acknowledged this topic may have been previously covered in his first post by, in his second, (this one I covered in the rant as—like Owen put it—"public service") simply assuming that it must have never happened and used it as ammo against Mr. Axel once again.

I'm not going to defend my character here. If a post reads like it was written by an asshole, then the author was probably being an asshole writing it. I'm no exception. But [geeze], it takes more than confusing the phrase "selling out" to set me off.

EDIT: I forgot Blaze used "cripes" in his original post. I thought I was the only one who used that one anymore.

My dictionary tells me it's an exclamation, and nothing more than "a euphemism for 'Christ!'"

I found that disappointing. I always figured it was a pancake of some sort. Although I suppose those are crêpes.

The fact that I find Jesus less interesting than a stack of flapjacks probably speaks poorly for my afterlife standings, but no big shockers there.

So it's just like "gosh".

That's kinda ridiculous. Took away all of the word's pizzaz.
