I seem to remember Charles Dickens visited Robotnik on an issue of the Archie version.
Well, I know the first issue of Sonic I bought was #6, which contained an adaptation of Sonic Spinball and a cheesy Christmas Carol adaptation.

Hah, so was mine [and we're both Ryans WHAT ARE THE ODDS].

Though I did get #5 from a friends brother, for free :)

And yeah, the comics are getting a fair bit better with Ian. Useless characters dying off, having characters with no personality obtaining some etc.

They're also trying to bring it closer to the original games. For instance, there are now only 7 Chaos Emeralds of different colour [Previously 'Mobius' had lots of green emeralds]. They've all been moulded together, put into the Zone of Silence, which is now become the 'Special Zone', which they can get to via Star Posts. Inside the Special Zone, a character called 'Feist' [Old character with no background other than he lived in the Zone], now has total power, and will only give Sonic emeralds if he passes tests [aka, Special Stages] as he sees fit.

*ZOMGEDIT* Screw it, Rlan beat me to it.

Personally, I hope this means that Archie starts doing DECENT game adaptations--like I suggested before, just wait a while until the game has been out for a few months, and THEN start work on it.

Oh, this is an odd realization...

Turns out Ian was bugging me for the Sonic 2006 script back in August...

If i had realized who he was, i would have given it to him with little question...

Damn! I lost out on a chance to demand a background appearance in a published comic!

It's OK man. It's probably for the best that the comic never tried to reflect the plot of that game anyway. What you did was probably a public service!

Geting back a bit to the whole "Free Comic Book Day" thing:

Apparently Hasbro's May 5th might bag them a bit of attention, too.

Is the comic still trying to reconcile differences between continuities? Last I heard, it turned out Station Square and a bunch of humans were inexplicably hiding underground, and the current Eggman is an alternate version of Robotnik who downloaded his memory into a robotic shell that just happened to look like the Sonic Adventure Robotnik redesign.

Oh, and Tails and Amy have both advanced in age through questionable means.

(Tails is more obscure- I'm surprised I remember it. Back when the comic was still in single digits, he ate some brain fruit that temporarily made him a genius, and Archie later explained that this also made him age to ten years old, since he was apparently something like five before that)

The first issue I bought was one where Robotnik had a giant lizard robot-thingy.

Technically, the first issue i read was #5, since a friend in 3rd Grade had a Sonic comic in his desk, and i was all 'OMFGSH COMIC BOOKS OF SONIC!" So i bought the first copy I could afterwards.

I liked how the comic was in it's early days. AoSTH-like humor and stories, with SatAM characters.

I remember seeing an ad for the Spinball adaption in Sonic-Grams, but I never got my hands on it. That Christmas Carol story sounds interesting. What exactly happened in it?

That was their excuse for Tails 'aging', but I don't think they ever specifically mentioned his age in the comics though. Same for exactly what the hell Antione was.

I do remember hearing that they'd done something similar with Amy, except it was intentional rather than retconned.

This has already been answered, but eh.
Poison Eggroll wrote:Hey, since everyone got deroboticized, did they ever shed light on Bunnie's parts? I recall she got remodelled, so did her removed limbs ever change back to flesh, or were they tinkered too much by Rotor preventing her former parts ever turning into flesh?
They had an entire story centered around it. It was something about Bunnie's parts interfering with her immune system, and seeing as they had deroboticizing technology, she was given two options: to be deroboticized, or to upgrade her parts so that they would be compatible with her body; if she did the latter, then she would never be able to be deroboticized. She chose the latter.

Forgot what issue it was mentioned, but there was a Sonic-Grams that said that Antoine is a coyote.

Basically she got control of the Chaos Emerald that was in Knothole and wished that she was older so that she would be able to join in more missions. I have the issue handy, but I don't feel like flipping through it.

They had also said he was a fox and a poodle (Ha! Ha! Archie, you are so clever). There may be more.

Actually, it was a Super Emerald (which, at the time, looked like the in-game Chaos Emeralds more than the Archie Comics' Chaos Emeralds) that Amy used, but now we're getting into semantics.

Yeah, it was the Ring of Acorns, back from the Indiana Jones spoof they did in #67.

That actually sounds intriguing. I can't really imagine encorporating Star Posts into the current incarnation of Archie Sonic and I'm interested in seeing how it's being pulled off. Feist really fits the bill, too (though last I checked, I thought Ixis Naugus was still in the Zone of Silence). Figures that I'd finally cancel my subscription just as the comic might be getting back on track.

Haha, I think I actually remember that one. I also remember when someone asked if Sonic and Sally were in love, and "Sonic" responded that they were definitely "in like". Amusement.
Senbei wrote:Yeah, it was the Ring of Acorns, back from the Indiana Jones spoof they did in #67.
Heh, so it is. The reason why I got confused is because there's a picture of a Chaos Emerald on the front cover, which is what I was remembering. Somehow it also changed her clothes to the Sonic Adventure style as well. Those crazy writers.
Black Rook wrote:Seriously? That's retarded.
Not more retarded than Sally giving Sonic a metal pipe in the fight against Perfect Chaos saying that it'll come in handy, and it's not mentioned for the rest of the story. Kinda like E-102 Gamma, if I remember correctly.

Naugus and Mammoth Mogul got free, figures that Mogul was actually the creator of the Order of Ixis than Naugus follows. Then, they got recaptured back into the 'Egg Grapes' capturing units of Eggmans, but they don't have as much power as they had.

Another small story that showed up that I really liked was that Sonic found this little metal island off the coast. Turns out all the original Badniks have been stirring there thinking of their own way to get back at Sonic. They rebuilt Pseudo Sonic [From, like, #6?], but accidentily sick the island, which becomes a little submarine. So hopefully we'll see some more of them :P

Is it me, or is Mammoth Mogul clearly supposed to be a furry version of Vandal Savage?

Do you honestly need to know? It's A Christmas Carol.

Robotnik was Scrooge. The Ghost of Christmas Future tries to convince Robotnik that if he keeps destroying the planet, when he eventually wins - he'll have nothing left to rule over. The Ghost shows him a future where everybody is wrinkled and old. Robotnik starts to concede when he notices that, eventually, he'll actually defeat the Freedom Fighters in their old age - and he's like "GREED WILL RULE ONCE AGAIN!"

But then, the mailman delivers a package. You see, Robotnik mailed a bomb to Rotor "Crachit" back in the past, but Sonic sent it return to sender. It took 60 years, but the bomb finally gets back to wrinkled old Robotnik and he opens it - and it explodes in his (and the Robotnik standing with the Ghost of Christmas Future) face.

Then, the cheapest ending in history...

I liked how Sonic could apparently change the color of his arms at will in the early comics. (points to last panel of the comic page)
