Gee, Sonic...

...is that a new set of instruction manual scans?

Thanks to French Sonic fan "Zipo" for purchasing and scanning.

That is one gorgeous Eggman shot. Shall I make a translation of the prologue? Of course I'm sure someone will beat me to it.

So the only one we're missing then is Sonic Drift 1.

They're called エッグソーサー = Eggusousaa = Eggsaucer.

It seems back in the day MS Paint was at the cutting edge of illustration computer technology. Oh and that shitty Japanese Heroes advert where the little Asian boy draws even shitter pictures of the Sonic cast, that was originally a documentary exposing SEGA’s use of child labour during the manual construction phase of the G-Sonic project.

Apparently SEGA also used some Cambodian children to storyboard ‘Shadow the Hedgehog’, well they were good enough for Angelina Jolie.

And they got the idea and story from Uwe Boll, Jon Peters, a hobo they picked off the street, and the people responsible for the Underworld movies.

Excellent work, Crazy Penguin and Zipo. ^_^
So the only one we're missing then is Sonic Drift 1.
The PC version of SMC+ was recently re-released at budget price, so I purchased a copy and made screen grabs of the Drift manual.

In theory, it should be possible to access the Japanese manual for Flicky, simply by changing the manual file names around (to trick it in to loading the Japanese manuals instead of the US ones).

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t install the Japanese manuals to the harddrive (although they do seem to be on the DVD-rom) and it won’t accept the Japanese files from the PS2 version.

I’ll play around with the disc to see if I can trick it into installing the Japanese files. However, do any PC experts know why the game won’t accept the PS2 files? They seem to be identical to the ones on the PC disc. If we could get the game to accept PS2 files, then it may be possible to extract some of the Japanese manuals from Sonic Gems Collection.

^_^

So apparently the car Tails drives in Sonic Drift 2 is an upgraded version of the original, and not the same machine. THIS IS CRITICAL INFORMATION.

Uh, I've had the manual right here.

If that link doesn't work it's here too.

Horrible I know, but here we go...

G Sonic

The mysterious, hidden Chaos Emeralds were protected by South Island: The Island of Peace. A hero protected those Chaos Emeralds from the evil scientist, Dr. Eggman. That day, Sonic the Hedgehog swayed in the palm tree hammock, enjoying his afternoon nap without a care in the world. But then...

Suddenly, a glare illuminated Sonic. Sonic awoke from the excessive light and the Chaos Emeralds that were set in the nearby area began to rotate intensely. Until now, the light had not been seen until it shot forth.

"What? What in the world just happened!?"

Before Sonic could even think, the light of the Chaos Emeralds shone brightly and powerfully before his eyes. Finally, the ear-splitting sound clashed, changing into the form of five jewels, and scattering off into the distance.

Sonic was surprised to hear a familiar voice come from above him.

"Daahahahah!! This is quite an unexpected chance to come by!! Daahahahah!!"

It was noticeablely the voice of that Dr. Eggman.

"Eggman!! Haven't you learned your lesson yet!?"

Ignoring Sonic, Eggman continued to ramble in his familiar voice.

"Daahahah!! Sonic, when I aimed my laser beam for you and hit the Chaos Emeralds, those which you thought was a shriek...well, I had noticed this unexpected phenomenon!!"

Sonic's glare was locked on Eggman.

"The Chaos Emeralds have dissappeared from this island. Because of this, I, the world's greatest scientist, have made my own extravagant fortress!! And it's name iiiis...Silver Castle!!"

"Once the Chaos Emeralds help me complete my fortress, that is, once I find them, all will finally be at peace!! Daahahah!!"

Sonic was planning to get that one thing as Eggman was riding off. But then, another voice echoed nearby from under the shady tree.

"Whenever you hear about those Chaos Emeralds, you can never keep your mouth shut!!"

Saying this, Knuckles appeared from under the shady tree, accustomed to hearing such a racket.

And so, Sonic and Knuckles declared to face Eggman.

"We'll foil your plans, Eggman!!"

Does someone have the rest of the manuals? If those that contributed don't mind, I can compile the entire collection and host it here for everyone to easily download.

I think it's funny how Knuckles simply pops up and becomes a selectable character.

Unfortuntaly, it seems the SMC PC disc doesn't contain the Japanese manuals.

An archive would be really handy. I've got copies of all the scans posted here over the last few years. Shall I email them to you?

I suspect the character profiles might shed some more light on his motives. Could some one translate it?

About time. I'm amazed it's taken so long for us to get organized. This should take a prominent place somewhere on the site; rare Sonic info and GG's wit are all we've got going for us. If not tossing a link to these in the encyclopedia or giving this kind of thing its own section, we should at least make it a sticky thread, include other useful links like big_smile's new page of translations and interviews, the Sonic Dimension page that I learned about two days ago with the transliterations, maybe Skye's page of soundtracks. Basically a 1-stop for all the information and maybe some of the media a SegaSonic fan could want.

I might not be able to send the scans for another 9-10 hours. The total size is 96 MB. Is that okay for your inbox?

I think it will probably be easier if I use one of those 1 click uploader services. It’s night time in the UK now, so if I leave it online over night, you should have the link to it in a few hours. ^_^

SONIC

The hero of South Island. Everytime, Eggman's evil skills are thwarted and peace is held by the world's fastest hedgehog of justice.
This time, it's centered around the Chaos Emeralds, and Eggman is confronting them.

KNUCKLES

The flying echidna, who is Sonic's rival. Knowing about the Chaos Emerald crisis, if he cannot leave it in Sonic's hands, only then will he show up. But in reality, it seems that the purpose of punishing Eggman is more important than that of the Chaos Emeralds.

They're not very lengthy, but it does hold a slight purpose for Knuckles' story. He can't trust Sonic with handling the situation, since it's focused on the Emeralds. Surprisingly, he's holding quite a grudge against Eggman, which is even more important than the meaning of his life.

Well, I wonder why Sega changed that to Knuckles just being stupid?
