New Videos.
Sonic in Kingdom Valley
Shadow in City Crisis
Shadow in Dusty Desert
Shadow is driving a hovering vehicle in Dusty Desert.
Dusty Desert has some nice music.
The vehicle's weapons seem to have an ammo limit. You'll have to reload.
The level seems huge with lots of places to explore, but the person playing the level doesn't deviate off the route set by the rising pillars.

I wonder if its quicksand or solid sand you can run on...

could be quicksand, because we see Sonic running on Roads not the sand.

Is it kind of odd that they're using Sonic's life count in Shadow's levels this late in development? Maybe I'm being hypercritical, but it strikes me as kind of shoddy. Also, the stage itself looks pretty dull.

Yes, it is kinda odd because the demo rips clearly showed all of the other character Icons.

So I was randomly browsing dA today. Wound up on some site for a fanfiction writer who keeps writing <i>Klonoa</i>/<i>Sonic</i>/<i>Kingdom Hearts</i> crossovers, where all the furries swear off pretty much all clothing altogether (I'm assuming he's assuming <i>Sonic</i>-style anatomy; funnily enough all the human characters keep encouraging this behavior... weird). It's vaguely interesting, but his writing REALLY needs work and he doesn't accept any criticism, which I think is a retarded way of going about things. Meh.

But anyway, enough about this guy's work. It's the journal entry he wrote that piqued my interest. It covers the Last Story spoilers again (so yes, this is on-topic), but one detail stood out. Since his apparent source is Saz, I'd kind of like Saz to back this up...

<a href="http://sonicstarh.deviantart.com/journa ... oiler-ific journal entry</a>
SonicStarH wrote:You're probably wondering who's the culprit that leaked the Last Story for Sonic Next Gen that's now spreaded all over the Net... Well, that culprit is me...technically.

So it happened one day when I could no longer resist the urge to spoil the Last Story for myself. Promising that I will never leak it to anyone (which I eventually disregarded), I asked Sazpaimon, the admin of Sonic CuLT who has the anonymous game tester's script for Next Gen, to tell me what the Last Story was about.

To my disappointment, Hyper Sonic was NOT in, as I've been predicting. My earlier journal entry that said all three Super hedgehogs appearing at the end of their stories was also false as well. They appear in the Last Story instead. What pissed me off even more was the ending...

Though, I will say this. The Last Story is a bit different this time. There's some surprises in it that makes it differ from previous games.

Here's what happens. Spoiler warning here. Also, please note this may seem a bit vague, so I will try my best to assume what exactly happens. And also, I will link to some pics of the final boss here.

At the start of the Last Story, the crystal hedgehog and the dark side of Shadow, Mephiles, kills Sonic from out of nowhere. Dropping dead, this causes Princess Elise to cry in despair, resulting in the release of Iblis from her. Happy to see Iblis out, Mephiles goes to him and merges with him. This fusion returns both of them to something they once were: a demonic bird god named Solaris, who apparently descended (as Iblis and Mephiles) from his realm named after him ten years ago as an accident resulting from the Solaris Project headed by the Duke of Soleanna, Elise's father.

Solaris' return also causes all of time to screw up, so Sonic's friends and Silver get stuck in this weird time-space rift. Eggman notes that Solaris will soon "consume all timelines" and destroy time itself, resulting in a void of nothingness (lolz Xemnas). Knuckles says they got to stop him now, but then the doc says that Solaris is an transcendent life form that exists in the past, present, and future. Defeating it would do nothing. Silver refuses to give up, and decides to destroy all of Solaris at once. But Shadow retorts: It would have been possible...if Sonic was still alive.

Amy sobs over the dead Sonic. Just then, Elise suddenly feels Sonic's prescence in the wind, making her think he isn't dead yet. Silver then decides to revive Sonic using the Chaos Emeralds with Elise's help. When this time-space rift was created, Solaris flung the Emeralds to the corners of this rift. And so, Sonic's friends go out to gather them in time. Cue the stage "End of the World."

After the stage, Elise revives Sonic using the Emeralds, and is reborn as Super Sonic.

What happens next is the vague part, due to it being just a script with only the dialogue. However, with some additional leakage from another guy, and the fact that SEGA.com's NG site says there are 11 stages as opposed to 10, I'll assume this. There is one last stage to tackle before fighting the bird god himself: his realm named after him, "Solaris." Yep, for the first time in history, a level made for Super Sonic. Well, at least I hope so... *prays*

Anyway, Super Sonic goes and battle Solaris. He defeats him, only for Solaris to transform into a different stronger form. Supposedly, Super Sonic gets his ass kicked by Final Solaris. So what does he do? He gives Silver and Shadow the Chaos power. Super Sonic, Super Silver, and Super Shadow all battle Final Solaris.

Supposedly, in the end, after Solaris is weakened, Elise herself somehow wipes out Solaris from existance...and because of this...

...

...

...time suddenly resets itself. That's right. Everything in the game never happened. This is what pissed me off.

The very last scene is the parade, where Elise feels something familiar in the wind. Credits roll.

Wow, what an anticlimactic ending. -__-; But sadly, this IS the real ending to the game. Additional leaked info seems to prove it is.

But hey, look at the bright side. At least, we get a possible Super Sonic level and two Super form boss fights. <b><i><u>Not to mention one of the unlockables in this game is the ability to go Super in other levels. (Something called "Super," btw.)</u></i></b>

*sigh* Real shame that Hyper Sonic didn't appear. Guess that should teach me not to predict outrageous things way before a game's release...
Emphasis mine.

So, have at it, Saz... do you <i>really</i> get to play as Super Sonic in the normal levels (for <i>once</i>)?

Reading through this forum after a couple days is always gravy, just because all the downtime between news releases is spent tearing each other new assholes and then it's right back on topic when there's a new nugget of information that we will inevitably argue about, and eventually tear each other said new assholes over.

It's a nice little homeostasis.

How long you think it'll be before James comes along and he kicks in the extra-strength melodrama at something in SH's big black spoiler box I dare not read?

Well, pretty much all of it is crap that's already been gone over, so the only new detail is in the bottom spoiler box. I'm not even sure that detail would qualify as a spoiler, but it's about a supposed unlockable, so might as well play it safe.

If it's true, though, then let me tell you, you've probably been wanting this for a LONG time.

I personally don't know, hacking through the demo I found text strings of files that are in the final version, one in particular is "superchange.mab." Which people seem to think has to do with Super Sonic changing in levels. They back this up because the super sonic transformation scene will most likely be CG. Personally I doubt Super Sonic will be playable in any level. Look at the last bunch of Sonic games post Sonic adventure. All the Super Sonic battles took place in space allowing control to be weak and character movements slower than say, in Sonic Adventure. In SA you got to experience the true speed and control of Super Sonic, showing how great the original SA engine was. Judging by the look of Super Solaris, he looks like a generic "fight in the sky" final bosses from SA2 on. Also, due to the already loseness of controls in this game, and the increased speed of your already non-super character (In my experience anyway). I don't find it likely that it will happen. In fact I don't see it as very feasable IMO.

And don't say anything about Super Sonic in Riders, that was already a lame gimmick and it pretty much proves my point about the looseness of control when playing as a Super character.

If they give you the ability to fly, like a debug mode, it might actually make those bottomless levels a bit enjoyable!

Or not even fly, but to hover without falling and be able to jump from that state.

Wow, those videos of Kingdom valley look different from the demos we got to play. It also looks a bit faster and not as buggy. And Dusty Desert looks fucking awesome, reminds me of sandopolis from S&K.

The parallels between this newest Sonic and Chrono Cross caresses me gently in a very bad place.

I thought the same thing, except it doesn't look anywhere near as enjoyable to play through as Jak 3's desert, unless there's a faster and more fluid method of transport than that shitty hover-thing he's driving.

This is totally off topic, but I thought it was worth drudging up. I went back and looked at the Shadow topic.
Sonniku The Battousai wrote:Shadow - Think Shinobi and Nightshade mixed with Enter The Matrix, only a tad more easier and more longer levels; Rouge is partner (flying, escape assist) for most of the time, but some levels go solo. 7 levels, 2 acts each. After SH, Shadow really didn't give a damn about his identity so he went to live in the slums of Station Square. Umm...not much is gonna be revealed about what happens the time between (a solo game will do that), but he gets a new look, new powers and is now a vigilante, fighting injustice everywhere. While breaking off a drug ring, he finds some interesting info about Eggman's past...and perhaps keys to his existance. This will finally bring The Ultimate Life-Form arc full circle and Shadow will meet his predecesor...but not in the way people expect. He is the first person to fight actual human beings (you fight them as Team Sonic too): They cannot be destroyed, only stunned and they get back up after resting. Fights Super Metal Sonic in final, Fights BioChaos with 7 chaos, Fights G.U.N w/ 7 chaos and all mission complete. 7 chaos opens up Super Shadow for all levels, but only lasts if you have rings. Moves include: Slide combo, Homing Attack, Chaos Spear, Spin Drive, Double Kick, Jet Boost, Triangle Jump, Dark Dash, Chaos Control (fast forward, stop, slow), Chaos Inferno (Boss), Air Rocket (flaming), Chaos Spark (bubble), Upper Combo (Rouge), Battle Combo (Omega). PLUS A REALLY BIG GUN GUYS IT WOULD BE KEWL AND KAWAII DONT YOU THINK?? IT COULD BE LIKE, LIKE F*CKING GTA MEETS DIE HARD MEETS SONIC HEROES BUT ONLY WITH SHADOW. AND A LOT EASIER.
It's scary. Almost everything he mentions ended up in the game. I wonder if he single handedly wrote all those letters to Sega.

The Hell? and this was written before the crap game got released!? man talk about bad luck in the Sonic community.

Also, remember that Director Takashi Izuka always wanted shooting elements in Sonic games and thats the sole reason Gamma was made. I guess Izuka identified with Shadow and wanted to give him a "badass" attitude.

but he came out looking like a lame ass.

It seems the newly invented word Badass always brings forth morons, I preffer the good ol word Cool that always seems to bring peace.
