I didn't really get Advent Children, but I assumed it was because I never played FF7. From what I've heard, that doesn't really matter, it wouldn't of helped. However, I'll agree the action scenes, except that dragon one that I thought was kinda lame, all rocked and I am still impressed by the CG 5 months or whatever later.

Really? personally, the Bahamut (dragon) was my favorite battle scene. That said, I was left unimpressed on the final battle scene between Cloud and Sephiroth, but considering I care little for those two, it's no surprise.

The blandness of the Bahamut scene could probably be attributed to the fact that every character sans Cloud and Tifa only got about 5 seconds of screen time throughout the entire movie, and seeing as how they were restricted to that one scene alone, the whole fight wound up scatterbrained and choppy. Not nearly as awesome as it could've been, but still one of my favorite scenes, for some reason.

I rented the movie because I was curious, even though I'm not a fan of FF7. When people complained that there was a teeny bit of story and a whole lot of battle scenes, they weren't kidding. The only things good about AC was the animation(though it isn't Pixar-quality), certain action scenes, and Reno and Rude.
Other than that, it sucked.

The only positive things I've ever heard about Advent Children are much like the only positive things I heard about The Spirits Within; it's pretty fanservice for Final Fantasy fans. I honestly can't imagine anyone else wasting their time.
It's still better than the horrid trite of shit that makes up Final Fantasy Unlimited, which makes Digimon look like it was written by college professors.

Whoa, now, the animation was soaring above Pixar quality. I haven't seen the likes of it before in my life, and it's anyone's guess how long it will be before I see animation that good again. But good call on Reno and Rude.

Perhaps that's why I enjoyed it as much as I really did. Because I get to see some of the other faces other then staring at friggin' Cloud for the majority of the movie. It was a breath of fresh air in a sense for me during the Bahamut battle.

The Spirits Within was a cheesy Sci-fi movie with the milkable FF name slapped on.
And speaking of milking FF...

This was from a recent S-E presentation. Judging by that picture I guess we can expect 3 more...things based on FF13. Supposedly, they are planning this FF13 Fabulous Crystal-whatever project as a 10-year deal and FFVII compiltation as a 20-year(!) project. Yeah.

How the hell do they plan to keep audience's attention for 20 years of Cloud and Sephiroth endlessly beating the crap out of each other?Judging by that picture I guess we can expect 3 more...things based on FF13. The animation in Advent Children wasn't bad, but the thing that really stuck out in my mind was the texturing. All the costumes and pretty much all the non living objects looked photorealistic. Yes I know Pixar can do that if they wanted too, but they never have and Advent Children was really the first full length film where I've seen the CG look that good. Also, I am not a FF fanboy, the only FF game I've even ever played was Crystal Chronicles for the GameCube, which was ok I guess. It was like a gay version of PSO.

Considering it was DIC and not 4Kids (responsible for the One Piece butch/murder/whatever) that was in charge of americanizing it, and that Saori was the only character with a name change (as far as I know), I think things could have been a lot worse.Arcade wrote: Talking about Saint Seiya, the version the USA got couldn’t be more screwed if they tried.
Naked boobies? Don't you mean man-ass? 'Cause I could live without those (puntime). Unless...Also about the Saint Seiya thing, American versions of all anime are fucked right from the start unless they go for the VHS/ DVD less massive market. It's safe-n-dandy for gunning and cursing in American TV, but not some well animated nekkid boobies. Or even quality pieces such as Miyazaki's.
You're talking about that Shunrei bath scene in the Ohko episode, right?

Well, I was talking in a more general way (think about Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Crayon Shin-chan, Space Knight Tekkaman Blade, Pokémon, Digimon, Monster Farm, Super Pig, every super-sentai series, Card Captor Sakura, Voltron, all of those that are part of Robotech, and so...); but yeah, that episode rocked.

^_^
And incidentally, save this type of situations, the manga beats the anime shamelessly.
CG speaking, TSW and AC are the most impressing shit of all times. TSW is a fairly decent sci-fi movie (and sci-fi movies mostly suck), and AC is the worst shit ever. Pixar movies rulez.

Maybe here are some other edits (I didn't bother in reading it yet). Now that I remember, I saw in a specialized mag that the series' music was replaced in the Brazilian version for an entirely different score made up just to sell a CD when the series was in a point of outselling EVERYTHING related in any way at any degree to it. Am I right?Brazillian Cara wrote:Considering it was DIC and not 4Kids (responsible for the One Piece butch/murder/whatever) that was in charge of americanizing it, and that Saori was the only character with a name change (as far as I know), I think things could have been a lot worse.

Um... the pic isn't showing up. Try using Photobucket (the more boobs this board has, the better).
EDIT: and not all spin-offs of FF7 are that bad:

You mean the 1994 one? Yes. And I'm not afraid to say it sucked HARD. At least they used a (well-dubbed) version of Pegasus Fantasy in the recent re-release. Still on Saint Seiya, the DVD version of the Hades Chapter just got released in Mexico. Any plans on getting it (I think you said once you were from Argentina)?Zarathustra wrote:

I got a VHS fansub early on when I didn't have a DVD player... but I cannot control myself, I'm capable of buying it again only for the totally-mightiest voices they have.
In fact, there'll be TWO dubs of Hades (at least the Sanctuary chapter) to Spanish, in the same way there is a Latin America general all-purpose dub of the Pixar movies, and an Argentina-specific dub (and I'm totally sure they suck waaay more than every other thing in the universe, they suck more than Gackt and Nomura put together). The thing's that one version is going for DVD (the one with the original voice actors for the bronze saints), and the other to TV (with brand new V.A.). As things are going now, maybe Cartoon Network LA will broadcast the latter.
... Mhhh, I can still see the pic. Try entering here and browse for it. If not, well, I don't know.
Fucking Tripod! :(
EDIT:
Ah, Snafu-comics... I simply love Bleedman, if only he was in charge of the Sonic franchise...

Holy bandwidth shitcocks, the video doesn't load! Either way, I was talking about the "official" spin-offs (the ones that will endure 20 yearz!! THEY'RE HUUEEGG!!), any unofficial art expression must be better.Brazillian Cara wrote:EDIT: and not all spin-offs of FF7 are that bad:

Oh, you're talking about the JAPANESE V.A. mess! There's some big trouble there, too.
Now, why was it that Kurumada "fired" the original actors and place the Ring ni Kakero 2 ones? I still don't get it.
EDIT: Arcade, what was really crap is this Tenkai-hen Josou movie. Yet, I still didn't see the Inferno chapter, although I've heard the opening, and it absolutely sucks nigga cocks.
Also, did you see the B't X NEO OVA's which were broadcasted by our now defunct Cartoon Network killer Argentine cable channel Magic Kids? It even beats Seiya, IMHO.
