Sega has admitted to this trend, and has explained that Eggman has actually become less evil and is now somewhat fond of Sonic, treating him as a rival rather than an enemy. This idea has often been expressed in Sonic X also.

Well, that's hardly news.

Still, I eagerly await the next-gen rendition of Eggman. Just the robots shown in the trailers clash greatly with the current not-all-that-evil look of Eggman. I can't see the friendly Eggy as being the manufacturer of those shiny impersonal thingies with machine guns.

Eggman has seemed to mellow out in recent years, though. I think it might have somehing to do with the temporary team-up he made with Sonic and the gang at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, but that's just me.

They kind of teamed up at the end of Sonic Adventure, also.

Not so much teamed up as Eggman getting pissed then shotdown, followed by Sonic saving the day.

However, I think the main reason for Eggman getting 'soft' is now that the characters actually talk and there is more of a storyline than run to the right until you spin the sign. It was probably a way Naka always felt about the character and never really expressed it because you really couldn't in the 16-bit era.

The fact that the two last (terrible) games both had Eggman being upstaged by some other would-be world conqueror should count in his favour. The last game that had Eggman as the antagonist had him nearly succeeding in killing Sonic and being just a few seconds away from succeeding in blowing up a country.

Which are both very naughty acts indeed.

I can say in safe conscience that I feel pretty sorry for Eggman right about now.

Eggman has always been a goofball, you guys just watched satam alot.

I love cock.

The thing is, that hes not as active as before and hes making crap robots like the eggpawns! whats up with that? where are the original insect/animal/object-type bots? the last game they appeared was Sonic advance 3 I belive.

I think that the doc's actually gotten a bit more evil, if anything. I mean, the worst he did in the old games was trying to control time in Sonic CD. In the newer games, he's almost destroyed cities, countries, and dimentsions. He's also destroyed entire clusters of stars and succesfully taken over the world.

Yeah, but it seems he does it mainly because of stupid freak accidents.

I see Eggman the same, hes just gotten..rustier? I dont know, Eggman is the most weird-ass character in the game....and Amy..and..Heck! everyone is weird ok? but the Eggpawns have made Eggman crappier, theyre in every game now! whats up Sonic team?? we want the old animal/insect/object-type bots back.

You know, the thing is... everybody knows you hate the Egg Pawns. You don't need to repeat it three times straight.
And I can't say if Eggman's softness is something stupid or a legitimate character development.

Yes. You know that feeling of deja-vu you get when you make a post? It's telling you to stop what you're doing and not touch that Submit button.

I'd have to agree that Sonic X has been a huge disappointment and I'm really not a fan of it. At least AoStH didn't negatively impact the games.

Sonic Team also has this bad habit of needing to 1-up themselves each time out. Since S3&K was about as elaborate as Eggman ever got while maintaining the upper hand, he became secondary as cutscenes became industry standard. I'll admit seeing Chaos overthrow Eggman was a thrill, Biolizard seemed to suffer from a lack of foreshadowing, even with Rouge's printout on the subject, and Heroes... well, come on. What the hell.

Well, I suppose that's an issue as well, albeit a minor one.
