Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?

I think my favorite Cartoon Cartoon, as they're called, was Johnny Bravo, just because of the pure, undiluted slapstick. That show never failed to keep me short of breath. Likewise, Ed Edd 'n' Eddy thrived on slapstick, but with a touch of childish creativity. Both Dexter and PPG had funny and insightful episodes, but tried too often to pull off comedy through bursts of monotony and poor satire. I hated it when Toonami tried to pull off PPG as an "action" show.

The only worthwhile Johnny Bravo episode was the one where Johnny and Shaq face off against Seth Green in a basketball match. It was pretty surreal.

Getting back to Klasky Csupo, the first 65 episodes of Rugrats from 1991-1994 were really clever, observant and with a unique charm. Its basic concept itself was very endearing and well executed, imagining the world from the perspective of infants and all the wonder, confusion, delight and sadness it brings. Even the adults, despite being mere supporting characters and the authority figures of the protagonists, were fully fleshed out characters with their own true to life foibles and personality traits - a huge diversion from the tpyical cartoon parents.

Agreed again. Another thing I like to add is the much more "darker" tone the earlier Rugrats episodes have been compare to the recent, newer ones. Especially Angelica. Anything that usually involves her shows a childish side of corruption, greed, power, etc. One episode for example would be when the kids found a nickel. Angelica basically made it hell by causing the kids to fight over money until they eventually rekindled when the nicket got buried in sand again, except Angelica who continued her search for it. It was a nice way of showing the sin of greed wrapped up in a kid's cartoon.

The show didn't go with dignity, in my opinion, but its run is over, thanks to it being cancelled out by other shows like the lame-o Ed, Edd, and Eddy, not to mention that stupid-ass anime coming up, which may or may not ever come out at this rate.

Well, I didn't see all of the latter episodes of Powerpuff Girls, but the ones I did see didn't seem bad at all.

Johnny Bravo was good, except when they got a new team making it and it went all angular and introduced lame new characters. But then they went back to the style of the original series...though I haven't seen many of them.

The Scooby Doo episode was classic.

Yeah, the Scooby Doo one totally rocked. I never expected a cartoon like that to poke fun of the whole Daphne/Fred situation.

Creator Van Partible went back to Cartoon Network Studios in season 4 to wirte and direct the new episodes, possibly out of dissatisfaction of seasons 2 and 3 (the ones with Pop's Diner, Carl, and the ugly Susie model). Afterwards, it was cancelled in about 5 episodes. Too bad; those episodes were just as good as season one's. And yes, the Scooby Doo episode was awesome.

The rhyming cookies episode sticks out in my mind, as does the Clam Warriors episode.

The characters introduced in the angular seasons never really bothered me as the focus was always kept on Johnny.

For the record, Johnny's consistent "little girly scream" kind of made the show for me.

Oh, yea, loved the Johnny Bravo/Scooby Doo episode (especially the door gags, I'm a sucker for door gags), although try as I might, I could never remember who the hell that car was at the end of the episode.

I think the all-time classic has to be the first ever episode featured on What A Cartoon.

FYO the car was Speed Buggy from the cartoon of the same name released in the early 1970's.

You know what would have ruled though?

Was that the one where Johnny was trying to track down a gorilla bearing more than a passing resemblance to Magilla? It always bugged me how no one was drawn with individual fingers in that episode.
