So who's going to martyr themselves and buy the Shadow game?

Shadow the Hedgehog is multi-platform. We'll have to wait until all three formats are reviewed.

...And they're all releasing on the same day, tomorrow. Meaning all review places should have received them a week ago or something.

This probably means Sega handed the exclusive first review rights to a print magazine, rather thana website. It happens on occassion...

I thought most game reviews come out the day of release, not the week before. Occasionally they are released early, but not usually.

They are always released early, because magazines get "review copies" of games weeks in advance.

Supposedly there's an NDA on Sonic Rush and Shadow in terms of reviews, although this comes from a fan who doesn't really have any ties to anything that would make me take his word for absolute truth.

Someone pointed out the grinding was better in SA2 when you couldn't fall to your doom. Funny that one of the better levels in Sonic Heroes would be Rail Canyon ^_^

The thign with Shadow is we've always known since the first glimpse the sort of game we were going to get. It's actually had a few good ideas thrown at it but it's 'more of the same' as far as this generation of Sonic games goes. Rather humorously as well it seems to have been shown up by the blue one on the DS. A kind of master class in what Sonic games are supposed to be and what Sonic games aren't supposed to be, both released on the same day.

So does he die on his way to his homeworld at the end of the game?

Shhhhhhhhhhhhit. That's not good. Just as I feared too. Well, at least we have Sonic Rush on our side. I can't wait until more reviews pour in for Shadow. I guess history will repeat itself after all in 3D Sonicdom.

Mediocrity. Cool.
Sounds like SA2 with an emphasis on exploration. I can live with that.

Hold on, I just read the entire review. The problem "Tom" seems to be having with Shadow is that the game is "so-so" when it comes to 3D platformers. Read.
Shadow the Hedgehog doesn't really do anything new, and doesn't really give the impression anyone's trying particularly hard. Level design, combat, objectives, secrets, pacing, balance, play mechanics, difficulty curve, boss fights - even visuals - are all precisely the sort of thing we've come to expect from 3d platform games.
Which is strage, because our gripes with SA2 and Heroes was that they were "below" what we would expect from 3D platform games. Hmm... I'll wait for more reviews to pour in. I plan on renting the game today, so I'll give my impressions when I'm done playing it. Yes, I am willing to put my sanity on the line for you.

Well, it has to be said that that's a hell of a lot better than I was expecting. Just have to see what other reviewers reckon of it, I guess.

I wouldn't say SA2 was below what'd we'd expect from a platformer. Sonic Heroes was below what I would expect from a video game, period.

I agree with you guys. Clearly, this 5 out of 10 score indicates that the game must actually be good.

Well, despite the low score, the review sounded positive enough. There was never an instance where the author said outright, "This part sucked." It sounded more like it's using the same formula as SA2 and SH and the author just wasn't excited about that. I'll wait until Professor Machenstein comes back, with or without his brain cells intact.

Hmm...I wonder if any mall kiosks are playing it yet...

What the reviewer IS saying, however, is that the game is just another platformer -- and believe me, I've played enough of those, thanks. If it doesn't give me a damn good reason to play it I'll just replay one of the platformers I already own.

Machenstein is the only person here gouging his eyes out in order to not be able to see that the game sucks.

5 out of 10? That's actually lower than I expected from a grading scale such as that. XD I was predicting that it would be a 6 out of 10 kind of game.
