Chemical plant zone: the fastest zone in sonicdom

Post by Wooduck51 »

After playing and re-playing the genesis and various 3-d sonics, i have come to the conclusion that chemical plant is the fastest zone in sonicdom.
Think about it, there are other zones that are speedy, but none get close to the gigantic slopes Chemical plant, especially if you are Super Sonic.
After thinking on it awhile I have also concluded that after seeing how well green hill played after going 3-d, maybe sonic team should design future 3-d sonic games by designing them as 2-d games first, then you could get that insane speed of chemical plant in full 3-d glory! Do you agree on both subjects? have a zone faster?

The beggining of Chemical Plant act2 is pretty "boosting", but I personally think Hidrocity has more of a "speed" sensation (specially with the whole "run over water" thing)- and I'm only considering the 2-D games.

Please consider for a moment how incredibly stupid that would be.

I remember how insane that was, running down the long inclines of Chemical Plant. You went so fast that sometimes you would no longer be at the center of the screen, but somewhere at the edge of it.

Sonic Advance 2 attempted to recapture that feeling, with its "boost-mode" and whatnot. But when in boost-mode, you couldn't outrun the screen like you could in STH2. For example, when going right, the screen would shift Sonic to the very left side of it.

Unfortunetly, the level design in SADV2 had very little depth, and bottomless pits would put you in a state of caution that would make it so you were afraid to explore the stages (I'm looking at you, Sky Canyon). It's a shame too. Plus, the boost-mode felt more of a handicap than anything.

Well, it's the thought that counts, so kudos to Sonic Advance 2 anyway. Someday we will get stages that balance both the depth and the stinging fast gameplay of stages like Chemical Plant or Lava Reef.

Sonic Rush seems to excel at what Sonic Advance 2 failed to do. The tension meter allows you to engage boost-mode whenever you wish, right? So it's an option, making it feel less of a handicap and more of an actual enchancement to the fomula. Let's see what Plorpus III has to say about that.

Personally I liked flying battery zone, act 2. I remember there being this one part in that level where sonic was running on some weird circular ball thing. I don't know what the hell it ws but it was and still is my favorite memory of sonic.

I can't think of a level where you were off the screen more often than Chemical Plant. I thought it was the coolest thing ever done in a game when I first played it.

It was annoying. I do NOT enjoy not being able to see what I'm doing.

But there was no danger in any of the places where you could actually do that, as far as I can recall. By the time you encounter enemies/obstacles/pits again, the screen has caught up and everything's dandy.

The 3D GHZ sucked balls. It confirmed for me right then and there that remaking a 2D Sonic in 3D is a terrible idea. Now 4D on the other hand, that could be some sweet shit.

Yes. Also, I liked the 3D GHZ, and I found it very cleverly translated from the original first act.

I'm amazed anyone could stomach getting all the emblems to unlock it really, as interesting as it sounds, I don't have the patience.

I have to agree with Light Speed on this one, 3D GHZ really sucked. Remember the tube in that level that looked way out of purportion, before you enter it, it just looks like a filled-in funnel, but when you're in it, the camera switches to another view to make up for this! I think it was slapped together in about an hour after somebody asked "Hey, why don't we award the uber-players with something other than Chao bullshit?"

I remember getting basically all but 10 of the emblems. The last 10 were mostly Chao emblems and the dreaded all A rank. I made the mistake of making my uber chao a hero chao so I just said fuck it and downloaded the already unlocked save. I didn't even bother keeping the save file after messing around with the level for about a half hour.

I don't get how you guys had the patience to get all A ranks, much less raise chao's on the original SA2 system. Although I got sucked into Chao raising in SA2 Battle.

Me too. The only emblems remaining for me are those dammed A-rank ones (with the exception of the Knuckles levels one).

I remember purposefully slowing down whenever I got to the section in Chemical Plant where the player ran past the screen. Otherwise, I'd activate this weird glitch where Sonic gets stuck in the loop and can't escape. Not fun.

I never encountered that glitch.
