So is that game even any good? Another piece of my soul died when Treasure defied their founding principle and began resorting to sequels, plus the GBA as it is is the platform of choice for stale 16-bit rehashes, so while I think I should be interested in more Gunstar Heroes I have a hard time looking at this without a disgusted scoff. Am I just old and bitter or is my initial reaction warranted?

I'm sure it wont be that bad, but I'm probably just saying that because it's fucking Gunstar. Advanced Guardian Heroes supposedly wasn't that great, but I thought Astro Boy was really swell, definitly one of the best games for the GBA. It could go either way I guess, so I can understand you being cautiously optimistic, but a "disgusted scoff"?

It's out in Japan, so the ROM is floating around. I haven't tried it, though.
I'm disappointed about the missing multiplayer, too. But I guess I can understand why it isn't there. I suppose the levels can be designed to push the hardware much harder when you know that they won't ever have to handle multiplayer at the same time... and on the GBA, so few would even take advantage of the 2-player mode. I know I wouldn't be able to.
Still, it looks pretty fun. And so does that Screw Breaker game that the poke-heads are putting out this fall. Finally, some decent looking original platformers!

I was planning on getting Trace Memory (Another Code) this weekend if Phoenix Wright wasn't already out. Then there's also Lost in Blue and Trauma Center....
As for Electroplankton, I was kind of hoping it would get an American release, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Have you played Lunar: Dragon Song, GG? I've heard terrible stuff about it, like how it costs HP to fucking walk, but I thought maybe you've played it since you like Lunar so much. Also, what's Sengoku Cannon? That one music game from the Gitaroo-Man guys?

If I thought that new Lunar had anything whatsoever to do with the Lunar I grew up loving, I might check it out. But except for the title, I don't think it does.
Sengoku Cannon is on PSP. It's the sequel to a couple of early 90's shooters from Psikyo. The original games were excellent, but I am not apt to trust sequels of any kind. I don't know if Psikyo made this one. Do they even still exist?

I'm genuinely excited for the Gunstar sequel. From what I have heard (I have avoided hearing much) it is very high in quality, it's certainly nothing like the Guardian Heroes fiasco. I'm holding out for the US version to play it, though. I certainly don't expect it to be better than the original though, or more likely, for it to represent the same sort of wasted youth for me that the original did--that's a pretty tall order for any sequel to any game that I played when I was 13.
I'm happy to overlook the missing 2-player because I spent way more time playing the first game in 1-player anyway, and when I got a second player I had to drag them through the harder difficulty settings because it was too easy for me on Easy and Normal. Though I admit, there's something undeniably enjoyable about watching people who just can't seem to avoid Urchin Force's spin attacks while you avoid them flawlessly.

I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I really, really, really fucking hate Kingdom Hearts and even moreso its inexplicable popularity. How is the fact that the Lion King is an excellent movie supposed to make its appearance in the sequel to a shitty videogame appealing? God damn it. The difference between a dog and a fanboy is that a dog learns not to stick its nose in an anthill after the first time.
On a lighter note, I am kind of looking forward to Zettai Zetsumei 2.

I don't get it either. Disney cartoons are not entertaining. They weren't even entertaining when I was a kid. I don't see how taking a bunch of kids shows and throwing them into a generic action RPG is in any way interesting. I'd rather shoot something.
If I had the same mindset I did two or three years ago I would probably be excited about that new Sonic game.

Oh, the movie was excellent. It was the last good thing to come out of the Disney animation studios (barring the Pixar movies), but it was nonetheless a solid film. I also, however, think Donald Duck and Goofy are really cool, but they did not alleviate the insipid, repetitive, shallow nature of the original Kingdom Hearts game, which relied excessively on novelty and cuteness factor that the fankids, of course, devoured with a spoon. And still are, apparently.
I also, however, do not think that making the game a first person shooter would have been any more viable a solution.

They're making another one? Goody. I must admit that I was a bit dissilusioned by that Pumped & Primed fiasco, but yeah, I'll definitely keep an eye out for this.Green Gibbon! wrote:Everyone should be excited about Ape Escape 3.
Come to think about it, I never got the chance to play Ape Escape 2. I am a disgrace to my ninja clan.

Oh, if you meant actually physically shoot something, then yeah, I totally agree with you. Infact, I think after an extended session of Kingdom Hearts, I would be greatly compelled to shoot something.I meant I would rather shoot something then play KH.
Yeah, I don't know what's going on with all this Ape Escape spinoff bullshit, but 3 is the real thing. It's out in Japan, and there's very little language barrier (assuming you already know how to play Ape Escape), so it's a safe import. I highly recommend it for platformer fans - it's the best I've played since the original Sly Cooper. They're making another one? Goody. Ape 2 wasn't as good as the original... still an altogether solid game with some memorable moments, but it lacked a certain tightness. It had an almost Spyro feel, almost too big with not enough going on. I'd recommend it anyway if you can get it for cheap (which I imagine you can by this point), especially with the knowledge that Ape 3 has fully restored the original glory and then some.
