The new Shadow game was, originally, the new NiGHTS game. Sonic Team decided that the NiGHTS name just wasn't well known enough, so halfway through the project they changed it. So, yes, they were going to give NiGHTS a gun.

I thought the new NiGHTS game was originally going to have team-action, and Reala would have to search for hermet crabs and VIP chips. I guess that project was changed into to Sonic Heroes in mid-development (Which would be full development in Sonic Heroes' case).

Priority is an issue at SONICTEAM.
