Those Delightful Logos of Yours

Post by Dunjohn »

Ever since my brother messed up the internet I've had to switch from my habitual IE browser to Firefox. Which meant re-listing my favourites. Which meant actually hunting them down.

Which meant seeing this site's home page for the first time in ages; my old favourites led me right into the forum.

Long story short (everybody start reading now), there's a rather neat embittered Chao sitting there at the moment and I was wondering if all the older ones are on the site somewhere?

They're not on the site, but I still have all the old logos (all of them, ever). Most I prefer never to look at again, but I'll send them to you if you want them.

I think the new logo is actually worse than the old one. It's better on its own terms, but in the context of the site itself it looks dark and grimy, as if welcoming the visitor into a hooker's den. Seeing as none of us actually care about anything at all anymore, let alone the GHZ-- and seeing as we're all hookers now-- I guess it's apt.

Is it just me or does the forum totally suck now too?

I think it looks good against the white on the main portion of the page, but I agree that it looks a bit squalid on the black sidebar, which is where it would be seen most of the time. I tried to add that hazy white border around it, but it doesn't help. I'll keep messing with that.

As for the forum itself, I have to admit that if this were some random web community I'd just happened to stumble into, I'd have no interest in becoming part of it, not anymore. I think that would go for any web community, though. I've discovered that the older I get, the less I care about what anyone else has to say about anything.

Well, it's not as fun as it was a year ago, for sure. =/

There haven't been many nekkid boobies as of late. That's probably the reason for the decline.

The reason something sucks is not always the lack of boobies.

Do you think the fact that we've only got two threads in the "threads too good to die" forum is a bit telling?

It isn't easier (for us) to simply put those logos somewhere in your art site (Project Drift)?

Yes. One came rather lately though.

It's a good sign. All threads deserve to die, eventually.

I don't like the new logo either. I think it's mainly the shadows 3D-ifying the checkered interior, like it would look better flat, but the old logo was about as "GHZ" as you were ever going to get.

Wasn't The Abyss created because we thought all threads would disappear after so long like on the old board? Since we keep practically everything it anyway it doesn't mean much to be put in the abyss after all.

Uhh, I knew that threads would never disappear with the current settings, and I'm pretty sure we discussed this before we opened the forum. The Abyss is a place to put all the dead, really good threads in one place.

I have a lot of the logos saved, as well as some of the artwork without the logo. I dig it, you see.

So does anyone like the new logo? I quite prefer it myself, especially comparing it side-by-side to the old one, but having actually created it I guess my vision is still skewed. Granted, not that I think it's a good logo - I am no graphic designer - just significantly less bad than the previous one.

I'll upload all the old logos later at my own chagrin. I need to muster courage, first.

I think it's neat, though I do have a thing for Chao anyway. I certainly couldn't do better.

How about a competition for who can cook up the coolest logo? The prize could be... uh, a fried hand. Or a really nice pen.

I think the new logo sucks. It almost looks like something that would be used in that Shadow the Hedgehog game, too.

I think the main problem is the colors. I don't mind the subtle bevel and emboss effect (if that's what you used), but the checkered squares are just so gloomy.

Then again, your avatar, Chao pic, and logo all seem to be dark. Is your computer screen set on really bright? Maybe that's why it seems gloomy to me. Am I the only one having a hard time reading the title of the book that the chao is reading, or is it just me?

But one billion pounds wouldn't be on the line. Only one very nice pen.
