One of my classmates in high school didn't know Van Gogh wasn't alive.

My illustration teacher and most of the class felt very strongly that spiders, insects, and other "bugs" were not "animals."

I too once encountered a woman who thought small things like spiders somehow weren't animals. I figured she was just somehow confusing "animals" with "mammals." Somehow.

There was an arguement in my Physical Science class a few years ago over whether solid matter is comprised up of waves. It was so mind-bogglingly stupid, I've blocked most of it out of my memory.

One of my classmates swore to the class that she drove to Hawaii over summer break. The teacher was like, "You drove a car from here to Hawaii?"

And she replied with the most genuine, enthusiastic "yes!" I've ever heard.

Oh, and that was also the same chick that thought the sinking of the Titanic caused the Great Depression, because "all of America's rich people were riding on the boat."

Is that unusual? I've always personally made a distinction between "bugs" and "animals", though I wouldn't argue against the scientific definition of "animal" as being any multicellular organism that wants to eat and fuck.

We had some friends from France come to visit us a couple of years ago. My sister was telling her friend about them and my sisters friend asked her "How long did it take them to drive here from France?" After my sister told her it was imposible to drive to America from France, her friend insisted it was possible, saying: "Yes you can! You just take the bridge!"

Just western European history, for me. Although if I ever have time in my schedule I'm going to take some World History classes that will hopefully alleviate that problem.

I studied World History. It just reaffirmed to me that I hate all history as a subject.

I liked History class. I just didn't like memorizing dates. My favorite lessons were WWII and the American Revolution. I used to be a big time war buff.

I was taking a world history class my freshman semester, and was quite enjoying it, but the dude's exams were messed up and I had to drop. I ended up taking US history later, which I didn't enjoy nearly as much, but it was an altogether pretty easy class. There was a major paper that I didn't even turn in and I still passed with a B.

It turns out it is common, even some dictionaries list the colloquial definition of "mammal" (in addition to others of course) under "animal," but these people were college students! They were arguing against the scientific distinction, as if it were some kind of obscure witchcraft. If it were just one or two people, that would be one thing, but this was the entire class AND the teacher.

I'm still mad about it. Art students, what the hell!

No, but in spite of being told "only animals, no bugs" one guy did a fish and another did a lobster, so obviously the lines are blurry. But no one did birds!

Birds are not much fun to draw. Except maybe certain types of ducks, but that's it.

And parrots. Parrots are kind of fun to draw every once in a while.

I've never been good with penguins. Only parrots.

Penguins and parrots I have no problem, but ducks are damn hard because of their beaks, I mean the Disney Donald Duck style. I used to be able to do it, but I can't anymore.
