Concerning the museum

Post by smiths32 »

For those of you who just skip to the forum and bypass the main site, there has been an update:SegaSonic and Sonic CD museum pages have been updated; glossary has been updated a bit; and, there has been an announcement. That announcement is that all non-Sonic titles are to get the axe from the museum.

I'm all for the exclusion of the titles that haven't been added yet because the ammount of Puyo and Phantasy Star Online stuff is getting out of hand. And of course all Sonic Team tiltes as of late have been as entertaining as a documentary on the history of paperclips.

However I'd recommend that the likes of NIGHTS and Burning Rangers are kept, simply because they are good games that (from what I'm aware of) are not as appreciated as they should be, and also lack fansites.

That's just my opinion though, what do the rest of you think?
BTW What's Squirrelknight going to do if there's no Phantasy Star Online?

What about games with an obvious connection?

Knuckles Chaotix and the new Shadow game both come to mind. Would I be correct in assuming they'll stick around?

Well, Gibbs could at least keep those pages up, but mark them as special features. You can't find that info anywhere else on the net.

I'm a bit dissapointed. I've always preferred to see The GHZ grow as a general Sonic Team site.

The non-Sonic content has already been removed and the games you mentioned have remained.

It is kind of sad to see the pages for NiGHTS et al disappear, especially as there aren’t many websites that cover those games, but I guess it would be odd to have a Sonic Team museum that had pages for some games and not others. Creating an encyclopaedia/glossary for each of those games would also be an arduous task.

Although, Pep’s idea of turning the pages into special features might work.

I’m surprised to see that Sonic Café section is being axed as most of those games feature Sonic. (Although, given the low quality of those games, it isn’t too big a loss). ^_^

That's probably what I'll end up doing, it seems a tragedy to kill the NiGHTS and BR pages especially. As soon as I get around to it, the Sonic-themed games will be weeded out of the Café stuff and I'll schlock them together in some general "mobile" section, though I haven't figured out how I'm going to go about that, yet.

The PSO decision is up to Squirrel. If he wants to continue working on what he's got, it can all go in the special section I devise for the other non-Sonic games.

I really don't think the "Sonic Team" that once was still exists in anything but name. I expect even that'll phase out over the next couple of years.

The GHZ would make a nice memorial...

Um, ...I'm not really sure. Writing about PSO proper is still entertaining, but I really don't enjoy that Episode 3 stuff. Plus I work extremely slowly (I've stated this many times), so any new PSO pages are long ways off...
Plus, like you said, there are PSO sites out there that are way more informative and in-depth than anything I could write.

Lemme think about this for a sec, and let me consider if it's possible for me to complete this stuff in a timely manner. After all, PSU might be worth writing about ;D.

Any objections to me adapting the NiGHTS, Burning Rangers, Samba de Amigo, and Chu Chu Rocket pages to put up on my own space?

I was going to mirror all those pages here as well.

GG!, if you put the salvagable pages into a special features section, will you still give them one last overhaul?

Maybe, but if I decide to, it wouldn't be for a while.

Kind of a shame that the other non-Sonic games is getting the ol' heave ho, but it's understandable. I wanted to know more about Billy Hatcher, although now that I have a flippin' Gamecube, I should go out and buy it.

Don't waste your money.

P.S. The NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS are safe on my computer. YOU CAN'T DESTROY THEM, GIBBON.

The only thing I'll miss from these pages are the funny commentaries. Well, they ARE funny after all.

No?

...

...why do I care?

Unless you're really bleeding for space, it seems pointless to actually remove content that, at least from their appearance, took a fair amount of time to create.

Should I stop adding non-Sonic stories to the Newsboard (to allow it to better compliment the main site)?

Giant Egg had a few major flaws (mostly to do with the controls and level physics), but as most stores sell it at a clearance price, it is certainly worth buying.

I don't think the news is as big a deal because it's archived differently and doesn't mingle with the rest of the content. (Like the front page, I'll probably still be talking about PSU and stuff.) That's your game though, so you make the call.

Also, what's up with those damn stupid hats I imagine you keep wearing?

Ok, I’ll keep the non-Sonic items (Although, I hope Sonic Team release a few updates as things have been fairly quiet recently).

The weird thing is that I absolutely hate wearing hats (stupid-looking or otherwise). ^_^

Popcorn's the guy with the exotic hat collection. Also, I've got a couple fitted caps and beanies, if that helps.

Oh, can I write something about Billy Hatcher now then? I rather like the game and it probably has like minus 2 fan sites on the Internet. I was kinda waiting on the GHZ's page on it, but if you're not gonna do it...

In that case, go for it, Neo. It's entertaining enough for $20.
