How did Princess Sally reach our shores then? I can remember she was in the early STC's and she was featured with info on the back of a pack of Sonic Cookies along with Eggman, Sonic and Tails.

Ricky was one of the staple animal friends in the original game. The Sega of America promotional guys produced a comic that featured in various magazines (nothing to do with Archie). The animal characters were crappily renamed (except Flicky) and slightly redesigned. Ricky had a bow and was now Sally Acorn. This is the same comic that introduced Mobius, Kintobor etc. All of that shit was the basis of every piece of American and European Sonic merchandise for the next 8 years or so. The animal friends were bastardised even further for books, comics and the second DiC cartoon.

All of DiC's cartoons aired in the UK. Sally Acorn appeared in early issues of the UK Sonic the Comic, but her design was that of the original promotional comic, not the cartoon.

No. Sega of America did Sonic Triple Trouble's manual. He retained the name Fang in US release of Sonic Drift 2 though. Not sure about the US release of Sonic Championship. I'm pretty sure the "Fang" powerup kept its name in the US release of Tails Adventures as well.

As far as the comic goes, most of the blunders mentioned so far have been easily ignored or undone after the fact, so I don't consider them too bad. The absolute worst thing the comic gave us was all of those fucking echidnas. They stripped Knuckles of just about everything that made him Knuckles and introduced dozens of shitty fanfiction-esque characters in the process.

Infact, the family members they gave to any of the video game characters were all fucking huge mistakes, Knuckles just sticks out more.

Sonic - Parents
Tails - Parents and some wizard dude named Merlin Prower
"Nack" - A sister named Nic who is basically Fang in drag
Amy - A cousin named Rob O the Hedge or some shit, basically Sonic as Robin Hood

I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Bad characters are one thing, but bad characters that tarnish existing characters are another.

Is that actually a problem? Personally I think more characters should be shot in this book. There is simply too many freaking useless ones. Geoffrey, Hershey, Lupe, Zonic, Isaac (awful Gamma clone), the brotherhood (and most echidnas with some exceptions), the families of the video game characters as VCP pointed out, angsty Ant (I prefered him more as the comic relief), the Royal Acorn family, Shadow (for good measure) and many more.

Oh and don't forget the "best" character of them all.. Tommy freaking Turtle.

The problem with that is [taking out consideration of Shadow the Hedgehog] that violent themes like that don't blend well with Sonic, asside from robots being blown up etc.
Also, the fact that the character that got shot was one of their more innocent characters, Mina, that if I had to take a liking to any of their characters, it would be her.

Sure, Fang suits the whole Knuckles / Tails naming process, but IMO, Nack is better ;) I don't thing they even TRIED to translate Sonic Drift 2 at all. It still had Eggman in it.

The comic, besides having a sister called Nic, he also has a bunch of brothers which helped capture the princess at one point. One of the better stories :)

I hate to agree, but yea. Sonic Team hasn't learned from the Mario games how to have a main character and still have him be the main character with the creation of new characters no matter what. Even Dragon Ball Z had Goku being the hero all the time and Vegeta never really beat him. Heck even the other classic Mario characters retain their roles. I say we kill everyone that came past Sonic Shuffle.
