Potosu is a god damned Turtle?!

Post by Rlan »

So I was updating VGAA, having recently scanned as much Sonic 2 art from the manuals / japanese guide as I could, when someone pointed out this critter:

http://vgaa.emulationzone.org:80/dir/in ... nemy20.jpg

And said "Is that a turtle in there?"

Holy crap. I NEVER realised that it was actually a turtle in a flying shell thing. You can see the hands and everything! I always thought it was just some ugly sonofabitch which floated around smiling, like a Grandpa with his pants pulled as high as he could.

The things you learn 13 years down the track, eh?

Speaking of VGAA, I've also uploaded all the Sonic Gameworld artwork too!

I thought it was just a little dude in a helicopter. Mind you, I didn't know that Grounder had that cool Egg Man logo on his arm.

Holy shit, dude, nice work with the Gameworld art. Is that all in that little flipbook thing?

Speaking of Potosu, everytime I drop "ポトス" into the Google image search, I get a bunch of pictures from Japanese sites of pothos, which is apparently a popular houseplant. I wonder if this is perhaps what "Potosu" is supposed to mean, except that I don't think it makes much sense. What's your opinion, Stearns?

I get plants when I put Potosu in Google too. This doesn't make any sense.

I always thought it was a flying bomb thingy. So is it supposed to be the same kind of turtle that rides on the flying turtle ships?

Yeah, it's all from that flipbook thing. Got it recently :)

And no, the Turtle inside is different, between the small and big ones in size. It's also orange. It's actually the same colour as the Turtles that come out of it.

The seals did it of their own free will. Perhaps the knowledge of their wicked deeds when in robot form was too much for them to bear.

Not all of them. I noticed a few of them actually landed safely on the Wing Fortess in the background.

You'd expect birds in Sky chase but nooo, we have suicidal turtles.

Do you have the instruction manual for it? If so, could you scan the story page (even if it is just the US version)?

The plant is one of those dangly-vine sorts that people like to keep in pots hanging from the ceiling, but I think your "poto-poto" was closer, considering how Sonic enemies tend to be named. Japan has more homonyms than any other language coincedences are likely.

Mind blowing.

To be honest, Potosu was one of those badniks that you never noticed in any great detail... I always assumed he was like ... just a pod with eyes, very much like Sonic & Knuckles' Gaadei (of course, Gaadei is much cooler).
