Well... You asked for it... I'll warn you now though, I'm a huge FF fan, loving every damn game in that series... Except X-2, which makes Sonics recent decline look like falling off a stool

Where to start?

Story? Crap... Nowhere near as good as X's. Some random angry guy who looks like Tidus (and liked a girl like Yuna) goes crazy and tries to... Do something... The fact that I can't remember is a testament to how bad it is, since I know almost every other FF inside and out

Characters? Crap... Yuna pulled a complete 180 and became the new Rikku... Rikku just turned into a skanky whore that got far too annoying for her own good. I liked Yuna in X, I despised her in X-2... Paine was alright, but does little to make up for the best characters from X being missing (mainly Auron)

Missions? Wtf were they trying to pull? Running around Besaid, shooting animals Tomb Raider style doesn't sound like fun on paper, let alone in practise. Watching the Mi'Hen (whatever) road for clues of some chocobo theif was even worse... And don't get me started on that stupid massage thing they had going on

Battle system? Best FF has ever put out... Problem is that not many people play FF for the battles (I mean, they're pretty stupid really)

FMV? Top quality, pity they wasted it all on those stupid stupid dance/singing sequences... The only FF I'll never go out of my way to see a FMV clip again, and once again, that's saying something.

And... Incest. Is. Not. Cool!!

Brothers constant obsession with Yuna is bad enough as it is without the cousin factor thrown in... Brother pissed me off no end

Thank god FFXII is run by a completely different dev team, and actually looks quite good

X-2 was like all Square games: not utterly incompetent in a formal sense, but nonetheless devoid of soul.
I wouldn't say all Square games are devoid of soul-- Chrono Trigger still remains one of the greatest examples of a Japanese style RPG to date. It's kind of like Skies of Arcadia in which nothing about the game system itself (the battle system, the gameplay, etc.) is particularly unique or innovative, but it somehow manages to draw you in with a simple (but not undefined) story and characters that you actually like. Just like SoA, it has the ability to just make you feel good when you're playing it.
The peculiar thing about Final Fantasy games is that, in reality, they all kind of suck, but everybody has one that they like.
Personally, I like X. But I think I'm the only one that feels that way. I think X, 6, and maybe 7 are really the only ones worth playing. 8 is unique because its the only RPG to complete forget about its own storyline, and 9... 9 didn't hold my interest long enough for me to form a valid opinion on it. 4 was good, if nothing spectacular.

And Rinoa was hotter than Quistis.

Wrong, Quistis had the experience edge on her. Besides she was also less annoying than Rinoa. 8, if I remember correctly, was the only FF game developed by Square Europe which may have worked towards the more modern style. I like most FF games, especially X and 6. Overall I prefered the style of X.

8 wasn't developed by Square Europe. As far as I'm aware, they never had development branches anywhere but Japan and Hawaii, which is probably what you're thinking of. And if I recall correctly, it's only the CG movies that were produced at Square Hawaii (I think that's all they did there). Or I also seem to remember something with Square Hawaii and Parasite Eve.

I stand corrected, I knew that some part of FF8 wasn't developed in Japan.

I kind of liked 7, but then I got annoyed by it. Same for 8, really. The only ones I really liked were 9 and 10.

And if I'm going to ever actually play 10-2, I'm going to use a strategy guide, because there's no way in hell I wont settle for 100%.

Oh, and what was with Yu Yevon at the end of 10? I thought he was going to be some cool sorceror, but he turned out to be....a bug looking thing.

Yeah, have fun playing Blitzball, which you need to do for 100%. Which is one of many reasons I never bothered to finish that game.

Square had offices in LA for a time before it was scrapped and the whole operation moved to Hawaii (later to be scrapped due to Final Fantasy The Mistake). I recall hearing that PE was mostly (if not entirely) developed there.

Aya Brea beats the crap out of Kiss-tiss and Rinoa combined. FACT.

Hmm, scariest moment? PE2 springs to mind...

Well, it does make more sense than, say, randomly finding money on monsters. Even if it is less practical.

I must be the only one in this forum who never played a FF game. The least I'm actually having some interest is FFXII, but only because it's a MMORPG.

FFXI (that's eleven [11]) is the MMORPG, and it sucks.

It's practically like every other MMO out there, but with chocobos and such. Speaking of MMO's, does anyone know if Guild Wars was any good?

FF is a love or hate series really... You very rarely meet someone who is indifferent to the series as a whole

FFXI is alright, nothing special

It doesn't matter. Video games aren't suppose to make sense. I wants to beat the crap outta monster and steal their riches, damn it!

But I think most agree how much Blitzball sucked. Give me my card games anyday.
