So last night I finally bought the Genesis Legends Play TV deal, Volume 1. <a href="http://ghzforum.nathantsui.com/viewtopi ... (This.)</a> It plays fine, but there seems to be somthing wrong with the sound, especially with Sonic 1. Much of the audio sounds over-amplified, and in Sonic 1, I can just <i>barely</i> hear the Sonic jumping sound effect. Apparently, it's been released in the US by Radica, and I bought it at Babbage's (which I believe is the same thing as GameStop). So I know a few of you guys have bought this and I'm wondering, is it normal for this to sound so bad, or should I go back, smack 'em around a bit, and demand a refund or replacement?
Oh, and if you don't understand the title, that's the sound of Sonic getting a ring, and sounding like my TV speakers are being blown out.

I played the Volume 2 one, with Sonic 2 in the collection, over at The Gadget Shop, and the emulation on that seemed crisp to me. I assumed they would've used the same emulation and so by default the Volume 1 would also be identical to the Mega Drive originals.

This is what the sound is like. I bought mine and returned it due to me thinking it was broken but the replacement was the same. I emailed Radica about it and they told me it was broken even though it wasn't.

I done the same but got chucked out of the shop when a queue formed and too many kids were mesmerised by Super Sonic.
I admit the volume sounds seemed a bit off on Volume 1 though. Getting rings proved to be very painful to my ears.

Okay, thanks guys. Just needed some confirmation. But I wonder if it's Radica is to blame, or if it was like this originally with Sega Toys. =/

It may be Radica, I searched for complaints against Radica and Sega Toys about the sound. The only ones I found were for Radica.

Used altavista to search for customer reviews for each.
Here's one page that caught my eye:

It may take a bit of reading but it features negative critisism against some of the sound quality. Here's the "lowdown".

One reviewer wrote:I've noticed that some of the music sounds very distant in Sonic The Hedgehog.

Another reviewer wrote:As others have noted, the real knock against the Radica plug-n-play is the sound. The Genesis had stereo capability and the designers have decided to provide only one mono sound channel, which is in itself a bit scratchy (noticable mostly during Sonic/Golden Axe). This is likely due to a quick-and-dirty on-board downmixing of the original stereo signal.

And finally another wrote:Beware OF sound PROBLEMS!!!

I'm not sure if it's the same volume but it seems Radica didn't focus on the sound conversion so the audio can be a bit offish.
