Why are H.I.V. and Hepatitis wearing ribbons? Are they suicidal?

I know what the ribbons stand for. I just thought it was somewhat amusing that HIV is wearing one to educate and yet, to discourage people from spreading more of its kind and to be for research for a HIV/AIDS cure.
