I love Top Five lists.

If you've ever seen the movie High Fidelity, you know where this comes from. But I love top five lists and I love music more. You almost have to as a radio jock, but it really is a passion of mine.

I want to know about you guys, though. I'm interested. What's your Top Five Favorite Songs of All Time?

It was kind of hard to narrow it down. It could be like that for you, too; I don't know. But I eventually did and this is my list:

Top Five Favorite Songs of All Time!
1. In My Life - The Beatles (beautiful melody coupled with lyrics that have a personal meaning equals greatness)
2. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (overplayed on classic rock stations, but still an unfathomably brilliant piece of work)
3. Somebody to Love - Queen (Freddie Mercury's voice is unrivaled; this is a perfect example)
4. Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve (great music, great lyrics)
5. Imagine - John Lennon (simple in sound, yet couldn't sound more natural, but it's the lyrics that make it unforgettable)

Edit: I should add that music, by nature, is completely subjective. What I like and what you like are probably two very different things. This is true for everyone. Point being, it's pointless to bash another's taste, so don't.

2. Double Concerto - Brahms
3. Lux Aeterna - Requiem for a Dream OST (dunno who actually composed it)
4. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
5. A Day in the Life - Beatles

I'm to lazy to comment, most are classical or instrumental. I quickly put this together so I'm not sure it is necessarly my top 5 ever since that is probably impossible to come up with, but that is pretty good.

I don't see how anyone can make a top 5 list. My favorite song keeps changing all of the time. I guess right now it's still This Machine by Julian-K.

Yeah, but there are some songs that you'll just always love. Of course if you asked me what my favorite songs were a year ago, none of those classical songs would be up there.

My "all-time top 5" changes enough to make the "all-time" part ridiculous. But if you think about it, you can narrow it down to the five that really blow your socks 'n' cocks off when you hear them. The songs you hear that make you go "wow." Those ones.

I'm just interested in what kinda music ya dig, really.

Nothing good ever comes from discussing musical tastes on line. People just feel too strongly about it. I guess they attatch their egos to songs and artists that they really relate to.

Which is odd, because you never seem flame wars started over Van Gogh vs Picasso, but if you mention certain musicians in the wrong crowd of people - you're branded a fucktard in that community forever.

1. Blackbird (The Beatles); the best beatles song, as well as the only one I can play on the guitar. Woo.

2. Mr. Blue Sky (ELO); The only optimistic song I show any fondness for.

3. This Monkey's Gone To Heaven (The Pixies); Becasue there was an underwater guy who controlled the seas...

..got killed by ten million pounds of sludge from new york and new jersey...

...I love the pixies.

4. Acension/Something (Paul oakenfold); Insert almost anything by oakenfold here, the sounds he makes are so damn original. Probably the only modern artist I like.

5. Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones); This song is great. Download it at once. Seriously.

Close runners up are Rainy Day Women by bob dylan, lots of stuff by nobuo uematsu (I'm such a nerd), and that FCC song someone on here mentioned.

I agree - it is impossible. I tried to do a compilation CD for my friend - and it ended up 5 discs long! (of course i didn't burn it - i'm not that stupid). If it was a top 50, then it would be easier - but i suppose somewhere would be R.E.M.'s "Shiny Happy People", Crush 40's "Dangerous Ground", Dream Theater's "Space-Dye Vest", Nine Inch Nails' "Somewhat Damaged", Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", Radiohead's "Let Down", Smashing Pumpkins' "Starla", Jeff Buckley's "Dream Brother" etc etc. I have over 1200 songs on my PC at the moment. 800 of them i tend to play a lot...

The above should be taken with a pinch of salt mind you. I change my mind all the time.

I know pretty much every song people have listed so far. It would have to take a damn Sonic forum before I'd see a top 5 songs list where that happened, wouldn't it?

Damn, I'm in the same boat as Pop, here. I know all of this stuff!

I don't think I can pick a top five, though. My number one song never changes -- One Angry Dwarf and Two-Hundred Solemn Faces (by Ben Folds Five) -- but the other four would really depend on my mood. Off the top of my head:

1. One Angry Dwarf (Ben Folds Five)
2. Happy Bivouac (the Pillows)
3. Everything Sucks (Reel Big Fish)
4. Michigan Militia (Moxy Fruvous)
5. Opium of the People (Slipknot... don't knock this one until you've heard it)

I'm sure ten minutes from now I'll be disatisfied with this list.

Ben Folds is awesome.

I listen to mostly game music, some punk, Ben Folds, classical, orchestral, and just about anything that isn't techno or country. I dislike country a lot. I also like piano arrangements and solos a lot.
