If the new Sonic games suck so much, then enlighten me; what better platformers are out there these days? I'm only curious. I obviously have not played enough of today's platformers (Not that I play modern platformers often anyway), so perhaps I'm missing something new and divine. Don't say Jak or Rachet and Clank. I tried them. They're cool, well polished and all, but they're both the same old platformers.Dark Crow wrote:But when Sega gave STI the Sonic license for 2, 3 and Knuckles, it was obvious that the studio had the necessary talents (Naka and Yasuhara mainly) for the sequels to bring justice to Sonic 1. Granted, the Sonic games by Travellers Tales were horrible, and by-and-large most of Sonic back catalogue was as well (the GG/Master System games), but now Sega have shown themselves completely incapable of creating any decent Sonic games, wether it being a 3D Sonic game developed inhouse, or a 2D one with Dimps at the helms.
Maybe I'll just stick with my Mega-Drive for platformers like Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Sonic & Knuckles, Ristar, Sparkster, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes and others I play most often. I am counting on Sonic Team to someday straighten up the Sonic engine in 3D, making it play smooth and flawlessly, but obviously you all are doubtful about that, so I'll keep my hope to myself.

Hey Prof Mac, if you are looking for a good "modern" platform series, try the Rayman games. As far as I'm concerned, Rayman 2 is the best 3D platformer ever. It's a masterpiece of the genre. Rayman 3 is not, but it's still really solid and definitely worth playing.
I have really high hopes for Psychonauts.

The limbless one appears again! I have to reckon that in early PS days Rayman was one of the best games available. The graphics were smooth as a peach.Esrever wrote:Hey Prof Mac, if you are looking for a good "modern" platform series, try the Rayman games. Think of Douching as the seventh gate of Hell. It's kept guys like Final Cosmos quiet for a good while.

A remember playing a Rayman demo for Dreamcast, and I liked it. I'll give it another sample. I might try Klonoa as well. I'm not sure Rayman is still being made since I hear EA Games bought out Ubisoft. I'll still try it anyway.
EDIT: I see we like Klonoa because he favors 2D gaming, like we do. I'll give that a try too.

Imagine a new EA boxing game with Rayman as a hidden character, his range would own the ring!Professor Machenstein wrote:A remember playing a Rayman demo for Dreamcast, and I liked it. If you are into genuinely good platformers Machenstein, I also suggest playing both of the next generation Prince of Persia games, Warrior Within and Sands of Time. I honestly consider both to be the greatest advancement in the 3D platforming genre, despite the lame gothic environment of Warrior Within in comparison to the storybook atmosphere of Sands of Time.Professor Machenstein wrote:A remember playing a Rayman demo for Dreamcast, and I liked it.
