According to legend (and I say legend because it's still being debated as to whether Caesar actually lived), a soothsayer gave Julius Caesar--war hero and current Roman emperor--the warning to "beware the Ides of March". On March 15, Caesar was stabbed to death--33 stabs, to be exact--by his Senate. The last wound was delivered by Caesar's childhood friend, Brutus.
When we were reading Julius Caesar in my sophomore year of high school, this one kid didn't have a damn clue, and I shit you not, the following actually happened.
--
Teacher: Robert, what do you know about Caesar?
Robby: Oh, that's a very tasty salad.
Teacher: No, no, Caesar was a Roman emperor. He was betrayed by his friend Brutus.
Robby: Why?
Girl: *jokingly* He ate Brutus' salad.
Teacher: Quiet!
Robby: Why would he do that?
Teacher: He didn't eat Brutus' salad! The month of July was named after Caesar.
Robby: A month AND a salad? This guy was pretty big back in the day, wasn't he?
