...of Sonic falling into the Mystic Cave pit? Y'know..."OHNOS!1"?

And please post the link as well. I'd like it for reference, if you don't mind.

Mystic Cave's death pits were the fucking evil.

Not as evil, however, as that one Blue Spheres stage in particular in S3&K. The one with squares of blue spheres surrounding a square of bumper spheres filled with rings. The squares of spheres were also surrounded by a separate field of bumper spheres. Just beyond were the bouncer spheres, and all around were an ocean of red spheres. Every other level of Sonic ever (beyond, possibly, Sonic Heroes) was nothing compared to this evil, evil level.

That special stage was pretty darn tough

As for those Mystic Cave death pits, the worst thing was when you're SuperSonic, thinking "HAHA, I am invincible, nothing can st... aww crap"

I'm pretty sure you could jump out of them as Super Sonic.

Okay, it's been a looong time since I've played 2, so I may very well be mixing it up with 3, but can't Super Sonic, you know, fly?

Only in space in Sonic 3, I believe. (And if you wanna be technical, yes, in Sonic Adventure 2, too.)

Super Sonic has always been able to fly. His legs aren't moving when he's at maximum spead, so obviously he's flying.

But I'm sure what Popcorn means is that you were able to kaiten jump out of them, what with Super Sonic's ability to do... high jumps and stuff.

The pit pictured is the no-escape one. I think there's only one other (just off to the side) and it's got a springboard at the bottom. If my memories of frustation are correct, SuperSonic can't jump out, you have to wait for your ring counter to go down so you can finally die.

Super Sonic did not touch the ground at full speed, but you could never actually fly. You were always still just an inch off the ground, you could jump fucking high though. And in Sonic 3 you could do that double jump thing I think, although that may have been with Hyper Sonic.

The stage where you just follow the line of blue spheres and jump occassionally? That was one of the easiest.

If this is one of the easiest stages to you, then you are a much better person than I am.

It took me forever to figure that one out, but once I knew what to do, it was no problem.

Yep. It shames me that it took me about twenty attempts to finish it, though. Even when I got the pattern down and skipped past all of the rings, the lightning fast pace the round takes near the end can easily screw you up on the last few turns.

Now, the one where you bounced backwards off a bumper and had to turn in an instant, or else you'd run back into a red sphere you just went through, that one was a bitch.

Super Sonic hovers, he doesn't fly. Unless he's in space. I don't get that.

Oh, I remember that one! The very best part was how, when you get the last few spheres, if you turn right too quickly, you'll end up killing yourself. True sadism in some of these stages.

I miss those kinds of stages, really. They took practice, some memorization, and a bit of skill, but they were doable. Unlike the craptacular stages seen in the Advance games and Heroes. They truly have lost something they'll never regain.

What I don’t get is how Sonic is physically capable of performing his Homing Attack. He literally pushes himself against air to lunge himself into Eggman's robots. Or does he just have a large magnet he keeps in his back pocket?
