Yeah, that's almost how I felt when I missed Leon in Suikoden I in time for Gremio's... reappearance. It's a good thing I had a save file before that.
I'm sure there's another game that had a(n) secret/event that you could only do at a certain time period but missed.
Oh yeah, it was in Shining Force 2. There was this Birdman that I found out that I didn't get, which still depresses me to this day. That game will remain forever incomplete.
Oh well, time to play Shining Force CD.

Actually, now that I think about it, that did happen to me in Suikoden 1. I quit right before the final dungeon, then played it again about a year later when Suikoden 2 was announced.
Also, though I got all 108 stars in Suikoden 2, I did something wrong at the last minute and failed to resurrect Nanami.
But... but the one character I missed this time is Ted! For those who don't know, Ted was a pivotal character in the original Suikoden who died within the first couple hours of gameplay. Plus he's one of only three returning characters this time, so to a Suikoden fan, he's important. But in order to trigger the event that lets you recruit him in Suikoden 4, you have to do one of those retarded things that you'd never think to do unless you had the goddamn strategy guide in your lap.
Now I'm short two stars of destiny and I won't get the good ending. Fuck me.

The hell with Ted. Schtolteheim Reinbach III is a goddamn playable character. It's the biggest in-joke ever.
You could probably have guessed it, but Viki and Jeane are the other two returning characters. Jeane's playable for the first time, and is also closer to being naked than ever. She jiggles and stuff, and I would like to extend my thanks to Konami for making Jeane fanboys such as myself happy.
There are two new races this time, the nekobolds and the mermaids, but oddly, there are no members of any of the races introduced in other Suikoden games except for elves. Not even kobolds. I'm personally a big fan of the Duck Clan and was hoping to have some bipedal aquatic fowl on my party...

Speaking of the other races, and keeping in mind that I have not as of yet played through Suikoden III, have the Dwarves made an appearance since the first Suikoden? Also, have the Winglies had any major inclusion since Suikoden II?
The lack of Kobolds is rather disconcerting, however. I mean, I never really used Gon or Gengen, but they're still ingrained in "Suikoden" as a whole. Of course, this doesn't cahnge the fact that now I really want to play through Suikoden III & IV.
Oh, and almost nude Jeane = <3

There is one dwarf character in Suikoden 3. He's playable (and powerful), but he doesn't affect the story at all. Other than that, there's no sign of the dwarves whatsoever, not even any mention of them. Likewise, there's only one Winghorde character (and he's quite difficult to find, he was the only character in Suikoden 3 I had to use GameFAQs to recruit), but I believe the race is mentioned a few times in the game.
After getting over my initial disappointment with 4, I have to say that it really isn't a bad game at all, especially not as a fan of the series. There are some things about it that I really like, it just isn't as well crafted as Suikoden 2 or 3. The actual scenario is pretty short with only a few major events... this time, you spend the grand majority of your time running around recruiting people. At one particular junction in the story, it's like over half the stars open up, and you just run around recruiting them in whatever order you like, which takes a solid 15-20 hours of playtime. This isn't without appeal, but it suffers from the Suikoden 1 problem insomuch as the grand majority of the characters are shallow and inconsequential.
The story itself, while not as complex as the previous two, is still pretty good, and the central characters are all great. I think when I described it as "Suikoden 1.5", I hit the nail on the head. Suikoden 3 is still hands down my favorite, but 4 has its own appeal, and I think I'll still bust a nut when Suikoden 5 is announced.
Damn, it pisses me off that I missed Ted, though. And of course you can't get the 108th star without the 107th. I played it a little bit today and I think I'm really close to the end, but my heart just isn't in it. I guess I'll toss it off the side and start over later on, probably whenever Suikoden 5 is announced.

Speaking of SoA, does anyone remeber that bit where Vyse and Fina are alone on Crescent Ilse and you have to chose to put your arm round her. It seemed impossibly seedy at the time, but did anyone choose not to, and do you get scolded and told to make the other choice?
And btw, Enrique was a fatty gay.

But that would totally betray the mystery of whether Vyse chooses Aika or Fina. I personally think it would be excellent if he just went with both (I mean, they don't exactly seem to mind each other), but I don't think polygymy would go over so easily in game that's so pure in its ethics. At least not in this society.
Now that I think about it, on that same night, Belleza shows up in Vyse's bedroom all sexy like, "Unh, you can't have me, but you need to go play man toy for your bitches, unh."
Vyse is indeed a worthy pirate.

Oh well. Vyse is still a pimp. Even though one of the (many) things I liked about Skies of Arcadia was that even though there was the obvious opportunity for some lame stupid cliched love triangle plot, there wasn't one.

It was pretty funny, because my dad was passing through the room at just that moment. He did a double take. And the scene where Aika and Fina wake up in bed together on that lesbian pirate ship. They're definately game.
Not that I don't totally believe Aika and Fina have something going on under Vyse's nose.
Yeah, it was. I'm pretty sure it was.It wasn't on that same night, was it?

When playing SoA a second time, I decided to do all the opposite or other options for what to say. I figured out that sometimes, both answers give a good response; You can tease or comfort Aika at the night scene and it'd still be good. I know that knowing this kills the magic in SoA, but on your first time playing through the game, you don't really think about that. And the first time is usually the most magical playthrough anyway.

2 things:muke wrote:I have no idea how Fable got RPG of the year award...oh, from Spike, nevermind....
1. Having 4 periods in an elipses is retarded.
2. Fable was moderately entertaining... and even though KotOR2 deserved the reward so, so, so much more than Fable.... I can see how Spike could pick it as the best RPG of the year. Do I agree? No. Do I think they're on crack? Yes. But I can see why they'd pick it.

I can see why they'd pick it, but only because I know they're complete retards.
Fable's story was disengaging at best, and the repetitive combat and limited environments did the rest. Marrying and all that got old and boring. The only things interesting were a couple of the quests and side-stories (most of which never even had a conclusion).
