PSP MSRP confirmed

Post by Double-S- »

A whopping $250 for the "most beautiful thing ever designed", featuring dysfunctional buttons.

Oh, and $300 for you Canadians.

Wow, you get an assload of extra stuff with it:
the PSP Value Pack contains ... (a) 32 MB Memory Stick, headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adaptor, soft case and cleaning cloth, movie/music/game video sampler UMD disc including multiple non-interactive game demos, and for the first one million PSP Value Packs shipped, a special UMD video release of the feature film Spider-Man(TM) 2 from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Battery pack and AC adapter BETTER come with it.

The case and the headphones (depending on their quality) are cool though.

But no game.

Sony had better be able to pull off a massive mindfuck of advertising or else the DS is going to squash it like a tiny, annoying, malfunctioning bug.

I mean, I admit to being a Nintendo fanboy, but c'mon! This thing is turning out to be a slightly better but infinitely more expensive N-Gage without the cell phone stuff . . .

250 dollars for a portable game system is fucking ridiculous. If any of you get one, I will personally stab you. It may take awhile though.

The thing that the PSP has going for it, though, is the fact that the DS's lineup is still complete crap.

Oh, and Sony fanboys.

The DS had some decent games (Kimishine, WarioWare, and Mario if you aren't sick of playing it for the last 9 years). And besides, apart from Wipeout Pure and Mercury I see no other decent launch titles for the PSP.

Sony are gaming Nazi's. And the fans are Hitler's Youth.

I don't know... that PSP launch list still looks pretty marketable to me. Metal Gear, Wipeout, Ape Escape, Twisted Metal, Spidey, Need For Speed, and a freaking huge slew of sports titles... that's a whole lot of established franchises. They're not my kind of games, really, but I have to admit... It's certainly more robust than the DS lineup, even now, a couple of months after launch.

Now, only offering the deluxe package with all those accessories... that's a brilliant move. No matter how popular the PSP winds up in the long term, you know it will sell out almost instantly at launch. Every major new system does these days. The early adopter hardcore are going to buy this thing no matter what... so you might as well force them to buy a bunch of accessories as well. I guarantee you, the basic package that includes only the handheld itself will be released afterwards. Sneaky bastards!

Metal Gear is a major reason alone to buy this thing. My love for NFS should be implied by this point, so no reason to say anything.

Even though it is Metal Gear with cards?

Marketable, very. As to whether any of them are actually good is another story. Aren't all of them just rehashes? The only one I can think of that's not is Metal Gear Ac!d... . . . that exclamation point is retarded.

None of the online stores are even selling (pre-ordering) PSPs alone. Everything's in bundles right now. And bundles without discounts are lame.

Metal Gear, with cards, for gays and men with inadequate penises. In all truth, I mean, what is it, this thing, how do we know, for sure, I mean! Come on, get a grip, pull yourself together. Speaking of which: a man says to his doctor, "I feel like a pair of curtains", the doctor replies, comedian that he is, "Pull yourself together!". Ha ha. But seriously, I don't know if the pound is strong or the dollar is weak, but $250 seems a pretty reasonable bargain.

Sony is right not to price itself aggressively in comparison to the $150 DS. It's more expensive than an Xbox... but it's cheaper than an Ipod. People will buy it.

Hrm. $250 is about £135 or something.

Hrm.

Something like that, even less perhaps. Personally, I'm mad for it. If Ridge Racers was porn I'd have already shot my load.

I couldn't give a fuck about Ridge Racer. Lumines, on the other hand...

You can get a new slim PS2 for $50 less than a PSP. The universe is insane.

Actually, I thought the new Ridge Racer was looking pretty nice. Except for the obvious fact that I would rather not play Ridge Racer on a hand held.

Never been a fan of RR in the first place, that's why. I wasn't sure about Lumines until I saw the website.

Lumines does look sexy. However, I'm not going to spend $250 on a handheld only to find that the square button doesn't work properly or that a year later, it breaks down. No, I would probably buy Lumines first(incase it becomes future a hard find) and then wait for the price drop or the inevitable PSP redesign.

How can you not like Ridge Racer, it's so... nice.

Lumines does look sweet, though. When I had a PSP reserved, that was the game I'd reserved with it. If it turns out alright, Mizuguchi may be my last hero in the whole industry.

Well this site gave it the thumbs up, so I guess it might be worth purchasing a PSP after all. Assuming of course, you can get over the blatent design flaws, and purchase the other good looking PSP games that I so carelessly overlooked in my last post (Although Metal Gear Ac!d still looks acid induced).

I like the idea of playing Ridge on the move. I think it makes it... more exciting, somehow. And as for Lumines... it seems a bit of a case of style over substance, it might be a bit fun but certainly not worth buying a psp for. Also, Wipeout Pure looks fairly good, a return to form it has been suggested.
