Capcom vs Namco

Post by G.Silver »

From what I gather this will be closer to the Capcom vs SNK card game than a fighting game. Not much Sonic Team relevance but since it's got Bareboman (among other classic Namco characters who have nothing to do with Tekken) in it I figured it better get mentioned here.

Actually, I notice that they are spelling at "Buraboman" now (was it like that in the arcade version?) which romanizes to "Bravoman," a game that came out in the US on the TurboGrafx. I wonder if it's the same game?

Should I feel bad for not recognizing any of the Namco characters aside from Mitsurugi and Klonoa?

Also, where's Viewtiful Joe? Or Dante?

It looks like a strategy RPG. Ala Fire Emblem or Shining Force.

Ooh, an SRPG. That'd be nice.

The Turbo Grafix "Bravoman" is indeed a port of the arcade Beraboh Man. It's spelled in the arcade version exactly like it is there, ベラボー.

Tsui, I will attempt to fortify your deeply uncultured mind if you promise to try and remember: the blue-haired chick with the big guns is KOS-MOS from Xenosaga, the spiky blond haired dude with the sword is Stan from Tales of Destiny, and the short-haired chick below him is from the same game, I don't remember her name, "Luty" or something according to that scan. The viking chick is from Valkyrie no Densetsu, the high-kicking babe is from Wonder Momo, and then the last guy on the top row is Beraboh Man, all three mid 80's arcade games. (The only one that doesn't suck is Valkyrie no Densetsu.) The guy on the bottom right is one of the Tekken guys, don't know which one because I don't play Tekken.

I would like to think Mega Man is going to be in there somewhere.

Seeing Klonoa beat the shit out of M. Bison? Fucking priceless.

Now, seriously - when are we going to get a Capcom vs Nintendo version of Super Smash Brothers? It's bound to happen at this rate. Especially since Capcom and Nintendo have been collaborating over the past couple of years.

And Naka is putting Sonic on the table for the next SM, too. So as ridiculous as its sounds with things as they are - a Capcom vs. Nintendo vs. Sega All Stars version of Smash Brothers is not that impossible . . .

I need to look at these things more closely when I talk about them.

Is the TG version just as bad then?

And this is the part where I say that "big guns" have barrels that are excessively long for their caliber. They are unnecessarily complex because each gun would require three seperate feeding systems for each set of barrels (which brings up the question: where the hell is the ammo?) and the recoil and torque would be impossible for even someone built like the Governator, so an anime girl doesn't stand a chance.

Dude, KOS-MOS will kick your fucking ass. She's some uber cyborg robot weapon, pseudo-daughter and quasi homoerotic partner of Shion, who is really smart because she wears glasses. And she says this sometimes: "Physical appearance down 5%. Shion, I need to be cleaned." It's sexy because she says it so assertively.

Anyway, she can handle big guns.

I haven't played it, but there's no way it could possibly have as much of the useless crap on-screen that the arcade version does, so it's probably better...

"An anime girl doesn't stand a chance"? Have you never seen a millisecond clip of any anime in the history of all anime?

Sounds hot. Anyway.

Even if her artificial nature made her strong enough to withstand the recoil, that is irrelelvent. She doesn't weight enough and doesn't have a large enough footprint. While she may be able to physically handle the recoil impulse, it's a matter of there isn't enough friction between her feet and the ground and she would be thrown onto her back and spun around in circles possibly killing her other party members.

Ah, but here's the catch-22: Xenosaga takes place entirely in outer space, so the gravity situation is completely different.

Plus, her boobies provide leverage that makes up for her lack of foot space.

Then instead of knocking her down the guns would push her away from the enemy unless she had some sort of jet pack or something to counteract the recoil.

That sort of kills the conversation though.

Continuing on the discussion, I don't know what enemies this KOS-MOS fights, but the firepower is sort out of place. Assuming she is firing .30-caliber rounds and assuming a fire rate of about 2000 rounds per "sub-gun" we are talking about a fire rate of 6000 rounds per minute for each weapon. Assuming she can selectively fire each sub-gun then she would be able to have a fire rate of 2000-12000 rounds per minute with both weapons.

Such firerates are only useful for area saturation and taking out aircraft. Now obviously the rounds from these weapons aren't sufficient for any sort of vehicle. The only way those weapons would be useful is if she was outnumbered by high concentrations of enemy soldiers. Otherwise the firepower is unwarrented and unneeded. Additionally she would be better served with a very accurate, very powerful weapon and artillery support perhaps from a Metal Storm style weapon.

This particular conversation was dead before it began.

No one's saying you can't like guns or be enthusiastic about physics, but you're probably not going to find anyone that really cares much about them on this forum.

Not trying to be rude, just honest.

And also the whole "Videogames break physics!!!" thing that nobody in the world should care about unless the game is supposed to be realistic.

The main difference between a minor and a major chord is the inclusion of a flatted fifth. If we were to make this a sharp fifth, we would have a flat, or 'sustained' fourth, a Sus4 chord. The principals upon which these are based are all from modular scales, namely, those that are transposed up half a step while remaining in the same key, which provides lush passing tones, useful for accompanying a songwriter.

You mean blue hedgehogs can't actually break the sound barrier? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT.

On the subject of the constraints of the sound barrier, they are what allow for harmonic overtones. These are generated by causing two parts of an object to vibrate simultaneously. This results in the string creating a pitch up to 3 octaves higher than an open note, if you know how to hit the string.

What if she had artificial gravity generators in her feet?

The thing is though, in most cases, the offending physics could be done without and it wouldn't change anything. I highly doubt that you actually see those guns firing at 12000rpm in a turn-based RPG. Or even hear them. Because if those guns fired you would not be able to pick out individual shots fired and they would end up sounding like jackhammers.

This is my not-so-subtle way of making a point.

The proverbial harmonic jackhammer of stringed instruments is the trill, and its two-handed cousin, the 'fret tap'. Both produce a long ranging series of sound based on the player's stregnth, decterity, and, of course, the stregnth of their pickups/effects/whatever. With solid sustain, distortion, and a well worked trio of fingers, one could theoretically play a series of notes without the right hand for, say, 3 minutes. Or, possibly, with the aid of a right hand, possibly create a flurry of seemingly impossibly fast notes at 180 BPM.

My finger is faster then yours. I can fire a semi-automatic at over 200 rounders per minute.

Hey, wasn't there an announcement made a while back regarding some kind of Capcom / Sammy / SNK crossover? Or something? What am I thinking of?
