Same here, except I think there was a mix-up and I got the a beta version of Sonic 2. It wasn't the legendary beta Sonic 2 with Hidden Palace, but it had a different title screen that looked like the game gear Sonic 2 title screen. Unforunately before I could find out more about this rare treasure, my brother buried it in the sandboxSpazz wrote:Same here, the first console I got was the Genesis and came with Sonic 2.

That story is classy.
Reminds me of when I was battling my friend in 2P Sonic 2 (which I am undefeated in, but I'm the first to admit, I've had no real competition) and he got pissed off when he revealed Robotnik from his mystery box, which so happenend to kill him due to a severe lack of rings and screamed "Fuck you Robuttsniff!" Which is considerably hilarious when your 10 years old.

My favoured strategy in sonic 2's competition mode was actually a rather mean one. I secretly set the monitor settings to "teleport only" and then wandered around near an item box the beggining of the stage while my friend blazed towards the finishing post. It would have been great for him, except that as soon as he looked like he was about to win, one of us would trigger the box and he'd be right near the first waterfall again, leaving me to stroll past the finish line at my leisure. Needless to say, I do not recommend this tactic if the person you are playing against is considerably bigger than you.
Good players may get all the attention, but bastards make far better strategists.
I don't see why 2p mode in sonic 3 was so lacklustre compared to the one in sonic 2. The 2p in the second game threw up millions of moments like this, it's insane that they did something so dissimilar in sonic 3 and didn't make it as good.

If you used that tactic against me, or anyone who really knows 2P Sonic 2, you would be slaughtered everytime. If you ran to the first box and waited, you'd lose 4 to 1 to even the lamest player. Everyone should know, there's 5 categories to win in. Finish first is just 1. I more often than not, finish 2nd, but still win with the other 4 categories. It would be great to see a 2 player game just like it re-introduced even to a 3D Sonic game.My favoured strategy in sonic 2's competition mode was actually a rather mean one. Well even though, SA2 wasn't all that great in the gameplay department, the story was able to support the game (sort of). I'm glad they bought back the special stage, but the special stage was extreamly fast but sluggish, which pretty much pissed me off. I was happy that the Chaotix returned even though it's not the same Chaotix that I remember. The reason why I say Heroes was a Huge step down was because 1) they rushed the game out, they should've made more time to improve the story 2) Even though I don't know WTF the meaning of "Bad Camera" it's still there even though the camera never fazes me it still fazes all the bitching Sonic fans 3) Most Sonic fans turned thier backs towards the series when this game came out although non-Sonic fans love the game the Sonic fans dont for some retarded reason.daytonafathead wrote:How is Sonic Heroes a huge step down. It was a game made to bring back the old sonic style and it even brought back the special stages, the chaotix, and Big the Cat. Plus, there was nothing but action like the old games. Sonic Adventure 2 was the BIGGEST step down in sonic history. I wanted the old school sonic back like a sandwich eying a jar of tasty mayonaise, wanting to rub it all over it's balogna. If sonic adventure 2 was worse then sonic heroes, then my name's Garfunkle Bernard III.Biby128 wrote:Sonic Heroes (A Huge step down).

If the non-sonic fans enjoy it, then why the hell did sega have to merge with a holding company with an irritating logo? Meh, I shouldn't really be contributing to decrying heroes anyway, considering that the last console I aquired was my megadrive and I haven't scraped together enough funds since to get a PS2 or something.

What a crock of shit. Since when do we play Sonic games for a storyline? We play Sonic games for fast-paced action, something that Sonc Heroes delivered on. It may not have had the same feel we got from the 2D games, but it was there. Essentially Sonic Heroes was much like Sonic Adventure minus any story or adventure. If anything, it's a step in the right.1) they rushed the game out, they should've made more time to improve the story
If you want to play a Sonic game that's story driven, pray to god they make a Sonic RPG, which I hope they don't, but it's the only Sonic game that would ever be made where the story would actually have some importance in the development of the game.
Sonic storylines are simple. Sonic and friends must save the world from someone. For the most part, it's Eggman, but more recently, there's been bigger beasts, but they have come about as a result fo Eggman's activities anyway. Basic principle of Sonic game stories, Sonic VS. Eggman, save the world.
If you want games with a story, go play an rpg where they actually matter (although the few rpgs I play, the story is irrelevant to me, but it's there) Sonic games are not about stories, they about action, fun and enjoyment for the player.
You'll find most original Sonic fans (ie. fans from the early 90's) turned their back on Sonic when the Saturn came around and there was no killer Sonic ap that we all expected. Most of the fans that turned their back on Sonic also turned their back on Sega a went the way to the PlayStation, as as such, didn't want to buy a Dreamcast, but now that Sonic is on all the platforms, with the kind of title they expected on the Saturn, they can return to Sonic without having to buy a Sega console.3) Most Sonic fans turned thier backs towards the series when this game came out although non-Sonic fans love the game the Sonic fans dont for some retarded reason.
Also, this gives younger children who have grown up in the 32-bit era and never owned a Dreamcast or Game Cube, their first chance to play a Sonic game.
I personally think they are on the right track with Sonic Heroes, but the team play has to go. I'm all for more chracters, unique abilities, but I'd prefer if the team play was more like 1.5 play or none at all.
