The most rings you ever got in one Act/Zone/Action Stage/etc

Post by Kishi »

I seem to recall having gone past the 900 mark a couple years ago, but with no way to verify that, I'll just go with this record from my latest playthrough of S3&K.

You guys?

Most I ever got was every single ring in Sonic 2 / Emerald Hill, both acts. Something like 250-300 an act...

I kid you not, 999.

Debug Mode? Why, whatever do you mean?

How about without cheating, Doc?

I know I've gotten 400-500 in <strike>GHZ</strike>Emerald Hill Zone Act 2 in 2. I was never really big on the ring gathering.

Oh, I've probably gotten like thousands in the Sonic-Shadow fight at the end of SA2.

With the help of a Game Genie some random alphanumeric string.

Probably somewhere between 500-600... I don't think I ever made it out of that range, but I never really played to collect the most Rings. That was probably mostly in Casino Night, though I think I usually had pretty high Ring counts in Marble Garden.

Sonic 2 gives a "Perfect Bonus" for collecting every ring in each stage, I was only able to do it in Emerald Hill but I've forgotton how many each act had. I think my best was around 800-900, when I tried to max out my ring count by using the slots in Casino Night Zone. I never made it and timed out instead.

There might have been some amazing Sonic CD ring collection I did at some point (by time travelling) but I don't remember it.

Wow. I'd never heard of that. Makes sense, though.

Yeah, that's a new one on me, too. Do any of the other games have the perfect bonus, or only Sonic 2? I imagine in most Acts it's not even possible to collect every Ring on the stage.

I remember getting a perfect in Emerald Hill, but it was tricky because if you accessed a Special stage you would lose your rings and they would all be back to where they were. So you'd have to collect them all again. Even still, getting a perfect in that level only required getting 200 something.

I doubt I've ever gotten over 300, nowadays I just go super once I get to about 80 rings since I only really play on my completed S3&K now. And I only do that maybe once a year.

And I think he means Sonic Adventure 2.

Or not.

Well, the special stages in S3&K also had the Perfect bonus for getting all the rings, so I can see how it carried over from S2. The only reason S3&K wouldn't have it in its normal stages is because, like Gibbon said, prettymuch all of its stages are so elaborate that it'd be impossible to get every last ring.

Weren't some of Sonic 2's stages pretty elaborate? At least some of the later ones.

Yeah, but they didn't have different pathways depending on which character you played as. It's literally impossible to see 100% of any stage in S3K.

By my current memory, Angel Island, Act 1, might be a possibility.

I remember hitting the 800s in Emerald Hill Zone, playing as Knuckles. If I remember right, whenever Knuckles emerged from the special zones, the rings would be back around the level, but he'd still have all his old ones.

I've actually been playing alot with the debug mode in S3&K recently. If you use debug, you've just got to force it to where you want to go. 'Pretty sure you can see everything.

The most I got without the use of debug was about 300 in Sonic 2. Not sure what level since it's been like 3 years, but I'm going to guess one of the first three.

You don't need debug to explore all of S3&K, you just need to use the duck-jump trick as Tails.

What is this mysterious duck jump trick?
